I use Purpose cleanser which is really gentle, so when I use it on the eye area it isn't irritating. It says right on the bottle, "gentle as water" and they aren't lying. I've been known to use soap and water -- but that's because of the exact issue you highlight here! I go through it so quickly when I use a cotton ball that it seems like a waste of money.
