More Accessory Storage

Last week, I read Michelle’s post about accessory storage and I was a little ashamed.

You see, I just moved and my accessories were, as of that post, dumped on the floor in a pile. I’m not even joking when I say that the $500 necklace my grandmother bought me for college graduation was tangled up with a bunch of Forever 21 bracelets.

Clearly, I needed some organization.

It took me a while but I started to look at things I already owned and tried to envision them in a new way.

A childhood coat rack became a perfect necklace rack with a little bit of paint.

Necklace Rack

This rack is basically a piece of wood with 4 dowel rods screwed into it. It couldn’t be any simpler, but it keeps my bigger and longer necklaces out of the way, and it doubles as cute wall art. It’s a great way to display some of my favorite pieces of jewelry while I’m not even wearing them.

Another problem area for me is my scarves and bags. I probably own two dozen scarves and I’m not going to even attempt to count the bags.

I saw an over-the-door rack at Target and it is perfect for hanging all that random stuff that used to litter my closet and bedroom floor.

Back of the Door Rack

I do have one warning about this one – it’s really not the best solution for larger bags. At one point, I had so many items hanging from the back that it kept the door from opening very far at all. This rack is definitely better-suited for scarves and small clutches.

And last but not least, I had been having a really hard time fitting all of my beauty products into my new under-sized vanity. Am I the only one around here with product obsession?

Ok, didn’t think so.

I found an over-the-door shoe rack that was perfect for holding spare bottles of lotions and potions, but unfortunately it wouldn’t hang on any of the doorways that I needed it on.

What to do, what to do…

Instead of hanging it the way it was supposed to be hung, I used some of those Command 3M hooks and hung it to a closet door.

Shoe Organizer

I stuffed it with pretty much any item imaginable, although I have weeded it down a bit from when this picture was taken. It’s great because it doesn’t take up much space at all and yet it really holds a lot of junk necessities. The fact that the items are easily accessible is just a bonus!

Do you have any awesome storage solutions for a product and accessory obsessed person? Not that I know anybody like that…

  1. Love all your clever storage solutions! While my jewelery might be organized at the moment, my scarves and bags are a different story entirely. :) Thanks for inspiring me to tidy them up so that I can actually see what I have!

Love it! I did that same thing for all my hats and mittens from a post that Jo-Lynne did. I ran into the same issue with the door AND used the same hooks! Great minds think alike.

Love the jewelry organizer – so cute.

I love that necklace rack! I’ve always had a problem with all my purses & bags – and that became an even bigger problem when I had to start sharing a closet with a boy! What I’ve been doing lately is storing all the small or medium-sized bags in the larger totes. Surprisingly I can fit all my purses into 2 large tote bags, and I can just leave those bags on the floor of the closet or on the shelf — And, the totes are still cute, so they dress up the closet a bit!

  5. Very creative! I need to do this.

Great idea, I found these great over the door storage pockets, which are clear and have a place to put labels. They also have different sized pockets and lots of fun colorful fabrics. Check it out simplystashed.com
