What a Dry Idea

I am a girl with fine, thin, and flat hair. So fine and thin, in fact, that I don’t often go a day between washings.

I know that “the experts” say that washing your hair daily is bad and I agree with them… but that doesn’t change the fact that waiting a day between washings leaves me with limp spaghetti on my head.

I have used the old baby powder on the roots trick more than once to help disguise the fact that my hair wasn’t freshly washed, but that didn’t really take care of my problem.

My hair isn’t particularly oily or greasy, but it needed that just-washed, just blown-out texture.

Enter Pssst Dry Shampoo.

Dry Shampoo 009

I happened to pick up the colored version of this product – because I am a sucker for marketing. And it looked cool.

So how does it work? Basically, I didn’t wash my hair one morning. Then I brushed my hair out well to get it ready.

I parted my hair at various points around my scalp and sprayed the shampoo on. I didn’t use too much in any one location, which is especially important because the color in this particular formulation looks yellow when you use too much.

I waited a minute or two to let the formula “dry” and then I brushed out my hair.

The picture on the left is my before shot, and the after is on the right.

Before and After

I definitely liked this product. It gave my hair a lot of “grip” and hold that I can’t normally achieve with hairspray.

It certainly took away the oily look that I feel self-conscious about when I skip a shampoo.

This product did take away some of the natural shine my hair usually has, but I didn’t mind because I got to skip a shampoo.

The Pssst line of products is available online and at Ulta stores, which is where I found mine. They are priced around $7 and can often be found on a promotion at Ulta.

If I were going to buy the product again (which I am later this week), I (a blonde) would probably not buy the blonde formulation – I would just get the classic bottle; however, brunettes might prefer the brunette shade because the classic formulation may look powdery on darker hair.

Have you used dry shampoos before – cheap drugstore brand or otherwise? Chime in, I’d love to hear your experience with this (in my opinion) genius invention.

Oh, I must try this! I, too, have fine hair. Flat hair, too. And, just like you, if I skip just one day of shampooing I look like a hot mess. Well, my hair does, at least.

This is definitely worth trying out…and definitely can be considered a worthy excuse to make a run to my nearest Ulta. ;-)

  2. I am in love with dry shampoo. I bought a cheap version at Sally’s, but I might try this one next. I have a coupon to Ulta. Thanks for sharing!!

  3. I use Rockaholic’s Dry Shampoo (posted about it here http://www.chic-critique.com/2009/04/my-dirty-little-secret.html) and I STILL LOVE this stuff!!

These two sound pretty similar – good to know incase I can’t get the Rockaholic!

Yes! I used this trick alot when I had long hair. I never tried Pssst but I used Salon Grafix brand and they have a blonde and brunette formula too. I agree, a genius product!
