Everything you ever wanted to know about the insides of my makeup bag

moriahprofileHey y’all! I’m Moriah, a mother of four living in the South. I started writing for Chic Critique first as a guest poster and then as a regular contributor about a year ago (after meeting Jo-Lynne IRL at Blissdom).

So what’s in my makeup bag? Well, first a little disclosure so you’ll not fall off your chair when you see how measly my makeup bag really is. I buy makeup at Walmart, all of it. I’d rather spend my money on, well, these:

redpump

That said, I’ve tried high-end makeup and can’t tell a big enough difference to make it worth it (to me) to spend the extra money. So I don’t.

(Instead I have a great shoe collection, you wanna see that?)

Okay, first thing I do every day (after washing my face, of course) is this:

That’s Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Powder Foundation. I’m currently wearing the light color, it being winter and all. I wear a darker color in the summertime after I’ve been to the pool a few times.

Next, under-eye concealer: I’ve blogged about this before, but I’m currently using Revlon ColorStay (light/medium) and like it a little better.

And then blemish concealer. I HAVE to use this every day even if I don’t have a temporary blemish; I have a burst blood vessel in my cheek that needs to be covered daily. When I’m a millionaire I’ll have it removed. (So, pretty much, I’ll be covering it forever.) My concealer is also from Maybelline’s Mineral Power line.

And then I move to my eye makeup. Currently I’m using L’Oreal Wear Infinite eyeshadow in the Autumn Leaves colors (which I couldn’t find on their website). I only really use the two lighter shades, as you can see:

I use Maybelline’s Define-A-Brow in medium brown, which I absolutely LOVE and have blogged about before. If you are looking for an eyebrow pencil, run and get this one. Seriously.

Next I curl my eyelashes and then apply my eyeliner – Cover Girl’s Perfect Point Plus (self-sharpening) in espresso. This is my favorite eyeliner EVER. Love the eraser on the end, too.

I also couldn’t live without this dandy little tool:

brush

Or my CG Lash Exact mascara (in very black). I tried the Lash Blast (orange tube) and I like this one ten times better. The formula is relatively the same but the brush is thinner/more precise and easier to use. And there are virtually no clumps.

Hmm, what else? Lipstick! If I’m at home all day I just use my beloved Softlips. If I’m going out or to church, it’s Maybelline Moisture Extreme in 315 – Cocoa Plum (which is becoming hard to find):

Best of all, everything fits in this:

(I’m a little of an anti-clutter nut).

So there you have it, my most current makeup stash. And, altogether (minus my lipstick, which resides in my purse):

looking for a basic skincare system… i use Clinique and I swear it makes me break out worse. any hints?

  2. Are you asking moi?! :) I admit, I don’t have many breakouts. I use ProActiv solution (typically cleanser only) and ever since then my skin hasn’t been prone to breakouts. (Before that, YES.) I also use their green tea moisturizer and advanced blemish treatment, both as needed. And you saw what I use for foundation. ;)

  3. Becky says:

Yes, I was asking toi :-) And that’s exactly what I wanted to know. Even the mildest Cinique soap dries me out but the moisturizer tends to make me break out… a bad cycle all around. I’ll try those because I’m sure they’re cheaper anyhow!!

  4. mmj says:

Wow…I just bought that same exact eyeshadow over the weekend. Love it so far!!

  5. Janel says:

    Love.Those.Shoes…so much.

Oh,I’m looking for a new eyeliner. I may have to try that one! And the Brow pencil – going to check out that post.

    Thanks Moriah!

  6. mary kathryn says:

Hey! We use the same lipstick!! Well, not the same color, but the same brand :) My make-up routine is pathetic, compared to yours!

  7. Trina says:

That brow pencil looks awesome, must check it out next time I get to Walmart.

  8. KellieS says:

I share most of my cosmetics with two teen daughters who don’t always put things back where they belong. It’s a challenge to find what I need on a regular basis.

  9. I’ve used the same powder and eye shadows before! I liked the powder pretty well, I just never found quite the right color for my skintone.
