Now that the 90 degree heat is descending upon us, it’s time to make sure we’ve stocked up on our summer essentials!
Paperbag shorts and skirts are not only comfortable but super flattering. The loose fabric will keep you cool while the fabric tie cinches your waistline for a flattering shape. Try a linen blend for those super hot days and pair with a tank or loose tee. Or if you love skirts as much as I do, you’re probably lusting after this Urban Outfitters paperbag skirt. Floral shorts are also making a comeback – pair with a plain tee making your bottoms the statement piece. Easy to wear and instantly girly.
Maxi dresses are easy to throw on and can be dressed up or down for any event. While colorful, patterned ones are fun, make sure you have a solid, go-to maxi for those events that might require a dressier look. Pair with jewelry, a cardi and cute sandals. Another great staple is the sundress that can go day-to-night, or beach-to-bbq. Try this H&M colorblock sundress for a go-to option.
And of course, summer is not complete without a nautical inspired shirt. Red/White, Navy/Cream, even Mustard/Grey are all popular color combinations for this classic look.
Cause of course, it needs it’s own category. I recently purchased these Elliana Wedges from Target. Amazing. It’s like walking on air and I love the tan-cognac color of the leather. And gladiator sandals are perfect for days when you’re going to be walking around a bit. The full wrap of the straps provide more support than most sandals. A pair of cute flats go from spring to summer seamlessly. Especially if you’re allergic to grass like me, standing around in a yard during a bbq can be treacherous in sandals. And of course, everyone loves their Old Navy flipflops, the shoe of summer.
My husband’s family has a boat and we’re always deciding at the last minute that the weather is just perfect for another boat ride. So I keep a tote packed with everything we need so I can just grab it and go.
First up: a tote bag that’s as glamorous as you. Subtle stripes of silver paired with canvas and ON SALE for $12.99! Pack your bag with your favorite sunglasses – mine are my Ray-Ban Wayfarers – and go-to hat to keep the sun off your face. I love my Urban Outfitters fedora, but 2011 is definitely the year of the Panama hat. Don’t forget the sunscreen – I love Shady Day Daily Sun Protection Wipes because they’re convenient and easy to carry. Plus I don’t have to worry about my sunscreen spilling all over my bag. And of course, don’t forget your favorite beach read!
