Review – Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion 30 Day Smoothing Kit

I love Suave Professional hair products – it’s hard to beat their killer combination of quality and price. So when asked to try out Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion 30 Day Smoothing Kit, I immediately said yes!

Since I had a hair cut appointment coming up soon anyways, I asked my friend Anastasia Sendo if she would help me put the product in my hair and give me her professional opinion. You know, like they do in the Suave Professionals commercials.

Step 1: Read the instructions. It’s great that this product doesn’t have formaldehyde, but it’s not for every hair type. I saw some terrible reviews online, and I wonder if that’s because people who should not have used the product, did. Read the instructions carefully.

Step 2: Apply smoothing to damp hair from root to tip. Anastasia explained that the keratin chemically altered the structure of my hair, helping to smooth out my kinky waves. It helps to have a friend who happens to be an awesome hair stylist on your speed dial. But it’s easy to do at home too. Just make sure to do it somewhere with windows because this product STINKS.

Step 3: Wait. 15-25 minutes depending on your hair type. Normally this waiting wouldn’t be all that exciting, but I was with Anastasia at U Only Better Salon which makes everything better.

Step 3: Rinse hair, towel dry, and apply cuticle seal cream. Wait seven minutes, rinse for five, then apply the heat defense leave-in conditioner and blow dry as normal.

What? This is totally normal.

Bottom line: If you’re expecting a product that will straighten your hair so that you don’t have to flat iron, this isn’t it. If you have really curly hair, this is unlikely to smooth out all the curls. But if your hair, like mine, is coarse with a slight wave, this product will smooth out the frizz, which means less time spent using the flat iron. Win!

Suave says the product will last up to 30 days, so I’ll take non-flat-ironed pictures around Days 15 and 30, and update this post.

Disclosure: Suave sent the product and an Amazon gift card, but I was in no other way compensated by Suave or U Only Better Salon. As always, all opinions are my own!

  1. AWFUL…..this product claims to reduce and tame frizzy hair, but my hair became more frizzy and is now broken off. Although I had to fight with daily frizz, my hair WAS healthy, shinny and manageable, but not anymore! Yes, I followed the instructions exactly. As a matter of fact I reduced the processing time. Being a retired licensed cosmologist I should have been more cautious! Be ready to have a huge supply of protein packs and deep conditioners to counter-act the results you will obtain with “Suave Professional Keratin Infusion” . I had my shoulder length hair cut to chin length hoping to regain some control and give the illusion of healthy hair. I honestly regret using this product!!

I had the same horror happen to me two weeks ago! My hair was shiny and relatively straight, but I saw this product in the hair conditioner area of Rite Aid Pharmacy and thought it sounded good. I have blonde hair normally but had been wearing it light brown for about a month when I purchased this product. I read the warnings, and none of them applied to me. So I began step one, carefully following its instructions and excited to see my new smoother hair.
what happened in the next 10 minutes could not have been further from this expectation. My hair started to curl up, lose all of its brown colour and i began to worry. I washed out step one, thinking that step two was the key to the magical straightening process, but worried that my straight hair was now kinky. It went from bad to worse. Finishing the third step, my drain was now clogged for the second time with my own hair, and I again pulled gobs of broken hair out of the drain to get the water to run down. Now, I was very worried.
I then blow dried my new hair as instructed. But I could not run my fingers through it, and it all was broken and burnt looking. I put a full bottle of leave in conditioner on it, hoping it would be better in the morning.
But I woke up with swollen eyes and face, and numb lips. And this was the case every day for the next 4 days. Now I thought, my hair is making me toxic! My hairdresser had sadly advised me on that first morning, after rubbing my hair between his fingers and having it all break off in his hand that I would have to have All of my hair cut as short as possible. And now, after having over a foot of hair cut off I was still being made sick by what was left? How could this get any worse.
There is NO way this product should be marketed on the shelf NEXT to the hair conditioning products, and certainly NO way that it should be labelled a ‘smoothing system’. This is extremely misleading, and Unilever should be ashamed of their marketers. It turns out its a chemical straightener and the lame quizzes online and package directions DO NOT clearly outline the risks of this product. I could have lost all my hair! And I am president of a financial planning company, so this is a serious impact to my ability to present myself to the public. In summary, DO NOT USE this product, it is not worth the risk.

  2. The Suave Smoothing Kit worked great for me. I followed the directions to a T and it my hair came out amazing. I have very curley hair and was hoping for waves, but got straight hair instead. My hair was very flat for the 1st 30 days, but after that it was straight with great body. I bought my second box already but can’t use it until July 7th. I did this myself with no help from anyone. It wasn’t hard to do, just time consuming. I have had no breakage or scalp problems. I wash my hair every 3 days now instead of everyday. I can’t say enough about this product. I had paid $300 to get my hair prefessionally straightened about 5 years ago and it was horrible. So when I saw this producet for $10.97 at Walmart I thought what the heck, I’ll give it a shot and it was the best $10.97 I ever spent.

  5. Christiansen Davis Bullock, LLC is a Dallas law firm which has filed a suit on behalf of consumer’s injured by Suave’s Keratin Infusion 30 Day Smoothing Kit seeking damages for personal injuries to consumers by this product. As detailed in the Complaint, the product caused the women severe and possibly permanent damage to their hair, including hair loss to the point of visible bald spots, severe breakage, discoloration and even burning of the scalp. The Complaint also states that this product claimed to be Keratin-based and formaldehyde free, suggesting to consumers it was free of dangerous chemicals. CDB understands that, in fact, the product’s primary active ingredient is a chemical that straightens and damages hair. What little Keratin the product contains has little to do with the product’s efficacy. The product also uses a formaldehyde releasing compound despite its claim to be formaldehyde free.
