It’s almost Oscar season again, which of course has got me thinking about all my favorite Oscar dresses of years past…
First is Gwyneth Paltrow wearing Ralph Lauren in 1999. She’s a gorgeous vision in pink – and exactly what I always imagined my Barbie would look like in real life.
Most people remember Penelope’s feathery Versace gown in 2007, but I was never a huge fan. I didn’t think the shape of the dress flattered her gorgeous figure in the least. The feathers just looked out of place, and oddly reminiscent of Bjork’s strange swan dress in 2001. In any case, I love, love, loved the Armani gown Penelope Cruz chose for the 2012 Oscars. Perfection.
Julia Roberts could not have looked more classy when she won the 2001 Oscar for her performance in Erin Brockovich. I only wish I could put into words how disappointed I was when I discovered this Valentino was way beyond my prom dress budget that year.
I couldn’t decide which of Reese’s Oscar picks I preferred – so I chose both! In what seems like a nod to Julia, Reese Witherspoon chose a chic ponytail and streamlined black and white Armani gown for the 2011 Oscars.
But of course, who can forget this stunning vintage Christian Dior she wore in 2006? Swoon.
As for my favorite red dresses, first up is Nicole Kidman wearing Balenciaga in 2007.
Next is Kate Winslet who chose lesser known designer Ben de Lisi for the 2002 Oscars.
And Helen Mirren is simply the epitome of regal wearing George Chakra for the 2008 Oscars.
Next up is a stunning Anne Hathaway wearing Armani to the 2009 Oscars.
Jessica Chastain chose to wear Alexander McQueen to the 2012 Oscars – I love this unique take on a classic silhouette.
Finally, I would be thrilled if somebody wore gloves like Grace Kelly’s to the Oscars this year. Is it any wonder that this lovely girl became the Princess of Monaco just one year after winning the 1955 Oscar in this mint green Edith Head gown?
Did I miss any? Which dress is your Oscar favorite? And which celebrity are you most excited to see on the red carpet February 24th?
