3 Rubber Boots that are Anything but Basic

Slushy snow getting you down? Unable to wear your beloved Uggs outside these days? We hear you. But traditional rubber boots designed for combatting wet weather can be so boring — or downright ugly. Here are our top three chic rubber boots from total steal to major investment.

Jessica Simpson seriously knows how to make a quality, cute shoe that’s cheap. Her matte-finish rubber rain boots come in three great colors (including black) but is it me or is this periwinkle pair just fabulous? And, at only $59, they are an absolute must. Macy’s._9553037

We all know great the popular, mid-priced Hunter boots are. But for those who want something different, with a little bit of edge, scope these high-shine wellies from Ted Baker. Effortlessly chic, they put a pep in that mama step. They’re classic and functional but almost fancy, in a way we had no idea that rubber boots could be, let alone reasonably priced ones. Try your luck grabbing them in the few sizes left on sale for $120 from ASOS, or purchase at Nordstrom for the original $160. Bonus: this “wide calf” style is great for gals like me who like more room in the boot, thus making the leg look thinner.

The loophole with rubber is that, being more affordable than leather, it sometimes brings our “reach” brands down to reality. And while $330 is definitely a splurge for a rain boot, it’s a much more comfortable price point than standard Prada boots. So, for splurgers and dreamers alike, here are my absolute faves this season. The Prada Linea Rossa pull-on boot in eternally chic navy. Barneys to purchase (or just to drool).
