After a few years under my belt, I firmly believe that some things in life are splurge worthy. And I’m very picky about what I will splurge on. One great decorating philosophy I just love is that the closer something is to your body, the better it should be. This argues for fine sheets and cheap drapes! Makes sense, right? Great sheets really can contribute to a great nights sleep! We’ve been loving Perfect Linens Second Skin sheets.
They’re soft and so comfy! They’re a great all-season sheet (since I run cold and my husband is always hot – its hard to find bedding that we both are comfortable with!). They are a little wrinkled, being 100% cotton, but it doesn’t detract from the comfort at all. (FYI – 100% cotton sheet that says it’s no-iron, be forewarned: chemicals that reduce wrinkles in 100% cotton sheets wash out after a few launderings.) They’re so much nicer than our other sheets! After all, you get what you pay for – but even so, Perfect Linens sheets seem like a high quality for the price.
I found their site so easy to use – I do NOT have time to wade through 10,000 different sheets on a huge website and try to find one that is good. Who has time for that?
Instead of searching through hundreds of products and tens of websites, Perfect Linens specializes in sheets and offer a small curated selection of exceptionally comfortable sheets… only the best of the best. Sheets change after use so they test and use website descriptions that tell you how your sheets will feel after multiple launderings. That way, their customers know how they’ll feel during their lifetime, saving money and eliminating frustration. They offer free shipping both ways as a satisfaction guarantee.
Most cotton sheets are stiff at first but “Second Skin” feel more like microfiber sheets, but unlike microfiber, cotton sheets are airy and don’t cling like nylon stockings:
“Second Skin’s” outstanding softness is the result of a natural enzyme process which removes molecules from the cell walls of the cotton, making the fibers easier to bend. The enzyme process is permanent so the exceptional softness cannot wash out. Sateen-weave, with fewer yarn-locking intersections per square inch, reduces stiffness further.
I really wanted to share the care tips that came with my sheets. I seriously just throw my sheets in the washer (usually with towels) and walk away – I thought sheets were “easy” and didn’t really require anything special. Little did I know I was actually damaging my sheets!
- Launder separately in warm water. Never wash with jeans or even towels, whose yarns are tougher and abrade the delicate sheet fibers.
- Use half the normal amount of detergent. Less detergent reduces residue buildup, which causes rapid re-soiling.
- Use a mild detergent that preserves fine linen fibers. One thats free of bleach, caustics, phosphate, sulfates and enzymes.
- Dry low with no fabric softeners or dryer sheets. They leave a waxy residue on our delicate on delicate cotton fibers and reduce breathability.
- Remove from dryer and put on your bed slightly damp. The fabric continues to dry while you smooth wrinkles with your hands.
Once you invest in great sheets, you need to take care of them!
