I always trust Angie at YouLookFab to keep me up to date on the latest styles and trends, and this spring she says the midi-length skirts and dresses are back in vogue.
This was a big trend in the eighties, and my initial reaction is NOOOOOOO! Frump city!
But according to Angie, the secret to keeping this look from being frumpy is to wear it with at least a low heel in order to balance out proportions.
The more I look at the updated midi skirt, the more I think I like it!
Of course, you need to find “the version that’s right for you.” As with any other skirt style, the midi-length comes in fuller cuts, A-line cuts, and (my personal favorite) the pencil-skirt silhouette.
Find the one that is right for you, and you can be rockin’ the midi-skirt in style!
What do you say? Are midi skirts a yay or a nay?

ooh it is scary….because looking at them really did give me an 80s flashback….i’ll have to give them a try eventually. maybe when I don’t have something growing in my uterus, eh?
I’m with you Jo-Lynne — love the black pencil skirt!
Yep, I can see myself in that with a high heel and a top that brings the right proportion to the whole outfit.
They are a major NOOOOO for me. I’m barely over 5 feet tall, so midi skirts (never heard that term before!) cut me off and make me look super stumpy! Definitely not an attractive look for the shorties out there.
Yeah, I can see that. Although it could possibly work with a very high heel?
I have the same concern, Tiffany. They cut at my calf, too, which is rather unappealing. Talk about choppy. Still, love the first dress.
i LOVE this look!!!! I will be looking for a skirt to try – although that gray one is TO DIE FOR!!!!!
It’s a risk for me (glad to see I’m not the only short one!), but I think I might like a slightly fuller, twirlier version, a la Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday.
The more I look at it, though, the more I like that black pencil skirt!
I usually feel frumpy in longer skirts but sometimes I can find one that works for me. Love that pencil skirt!
I love them all. However, when you’re short like me you have ot be uber careful about where that hem hits you because you can look like a person w/stumps if you don’t. Is it wrong that I like the shoes in every picture too?
That length is a tough one. I’m not a big fan, but if you have thin calves…go for it.
