Fashion for Not Quite Tween Girls..

This picture of my three girls shows age appropriate style at it’s best – the toddler in the pretty dresses and pink, the six year old still in dresses – but now starting to mix-n-match pieces like cardigans and leggings to show her own style, and then my eight year old who now just wants graphic tee’s and skinny jeans – who I can see will be shopping my closet in a few years.

We have had an interesting time transitioning almost completely out of dresses and cute outfits into age-appropriate separates for older girls.  I want my daughters to express their own sense of style, but I do put boundaries around what is right for their age and I believe in as little bling as humanly possible.  I am trying to teach – “yes it’s okay to shop the trends – but err on the conservative side – and what can you buy that will stretch and match through your entire wardrobe.”  I am trying to teach classic yet stylish looks.

Our go-to stores for this 7-10 age range with the best selection and classic styles are Crewcuts, 77Kids, Abercrombie Kids, and The Gap.

In the photo above my eldest is wearing a top and cardigan from Abercrombie Kids, skinny jeans from The Gap, and her headband and flip-flops are from Target.

I love this set from Abercrombie Kids. My daughter would wear this to school or on the weekend. A fun and casual skirt, a graphic tee, a plaid top to wear open over the tee and some fun flip-flops.

This 77Kids set is a favorite type of outfit for school – a graphic tee, cropped jeans, a hoodie for layering and basic flip-flops.

What are some of your favorite stores and looks for your almost tween daughters?

  1. The outfit on your toddler is so adorable! I don’t know Crewcuts or 77kids. I’ll check them out. Both my girls, 6 & 8, are into comfy clothes so they won’t wear jeans. I love Lands End for their good quality and reasonable prices and my girls love Naartje – they’re clothes are fun and whimsical yet super comfy. I love Target for basic Ts for them….

  2. love this! i just started a post on what stores i shop at for for my 8-year-old – she’s completely not girly. AT ALL. so its hard to find cute stuff. we love 77kids and Crazy8!!

  3. Yeah, it’s hard. My girls always want to go to Justice. EW. I still manage to get most of their clothes at the Gap, though. I haven’t checked out CrewCuts or 77Kids. I figured CrewCuts was out of my price range and I just heard about 77Kids yesterday! Evidently we have one now, so I”ll be sure to check it out the next time I’m at the mall.
