Sprouting Threads: The “Stitch Fix For Kids!”

Being the mom of a 7-year old and an almost 5-year old, I’ve encountered my fair share of trials and tribulations. We’ve gotten through the no-sleep newborn stage, the fussy toddler stage and the indignant preschool stage. I’ve handled food aversions, tantrums, childhood fears and unbearable children’s television.

Now that we’ve graduated to the preschool/school-age season of life, I’ve found that we’ve entered into a new stage: the Fashionista Stage. To be fair, this stage started around the age of 2 or 3 years old, with my girls dressing in every princess dress they could get their hands on. From early on, my girls have had an opinion about their outfit (however mismatched or flamboyant it may be). I’ve learned to pick my battles, even when it means letting them go out in public with a pink-on-pink-on-pink outfit.

It can be a struggle to keep proper-fitting clothes in their closet, as they grow so fast. And while getting the cheap clothes from department stores is a way to keep them clothed, the outfits don’t last and, to be honest, are somewhat plain. As a busy mom, I find it hard to get to some of the cute local children’s boutiques to peruse the higher-quality chic kids clothes that are available.

Luckily, I had the opportunity to check out what might be my new parenting best friend: Sprouting Threads.

Many women are taking the plunge to do Stitch Fix: the subscription service that “matches” you to a stylist who assesses your fashion profile. After getting to know your style and price point, the Stitch Fix stylist sends you a box of several items to try on, commitment-free, in the comfort of your own home. If you like what’s in the box, you can buy it. If not, you can send it back at no charge.

Thanks to the awesome team behind Sprouting Threads, you can now have the same experience but for your kids! Imagine not having to drag your kids out to the mall, struggling to have them try on clothes in small fitting rooms, and complaining about the selection.

And it couldn’t be easier.

For a styling fee of $20, Sprouting Threads allows you (or your older child) to “style your threads” by answering simple questions about sizing and rating pictures about what your child would or wouldn’t wear. Currently, Sprouting Threads styles children ages 2-8 years old. Next, you decide how many outfits you’d like your subscription box to offer (you can opt for 2-5 outfits) and your frequency (monthly or seasonally).

Once your box arrives, your child can try on the clothes in the comfort of home. You can decide if you want to keep the outfits or send them back. If you decide to keep 2 or more of the pieces, your $20 styling fee will be applied toward your purchase.

One of the things I love about Sprouting Threads is the reThreading program. ReThreading allows our members to send back worn pieces for credit towards future purchases. Members can also opt to have gently worn reThreads blended into their subscription box, allowing for an expanded clothing range and a lower price. It’s upcycling at it’s best!

I found navigating the Sprouting Threads site to be super easy, and in no time, had a subscription box styled for my daughter, Maggie, on my doorstep. We opted for 2 outfits, with a 50/50 blend of new and reThread options. Here is what came in our box:

Super cute, right?

I love having the opportunity to get both newer boutique clothes as well as gently used reThreads. The style was right on, and Maggie was immediately in love with her new threads! Sprouting Threads is a perfect service for busy moms who love quality and style for their kids.
