Clarins HydraQuench

At the very first sign of cold weather, my skin has an anxiety attack. It happens every year when October and November roll around — and the next thing I know, my face dries up and starts peeling like I’ve been through some sort of chemical warfare. I am always trying to find skincare that is rich enough to combat my scaly winter skin.

A few weeks/months ago I went to the Clarins counter at Macy’s and begged for their best products to combat dry skin. I left the store with these products. The girl at the counter swore they would rock my world.

They are the HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase and the HydraQuench Cream, both by Clarins.

And the verdict is…

Yeah, notsomuch. I still have the occasional dry patch after I apply my makeup, and sometimes my face feels tight even after I apply the moisturizer liberally. It’s good stuff, but it’s not quite as rich as I need. If you have normal to dry skin, this might be a great product for you. But if you have skin like a reptile, then you may need something else.

I did notice, in perusing the other products in the Clarins HydraQuench line, that there is a HydraQuench Rich Cream For Very Dry Skin and I have no idea why the sales clerk at Macy’s did not sell me that after I explained that I wanted the best stuff for dry skin that she carries. I should probably go back and complain, but at this point it’s half gone and I’ve already moved on to my next victim.

This weekend I began trying out a new product. I am hoping it will be the answer to my prayers. I will fill you in when I have reached a conclusion.

Have you tried Clinique’s Moisture Surge Extra? I don’t think it’s all that great for maintaining normal hydration, but it’s wonderful for instantly treating that dry, uncomfortable feeling. It’s really light & smooth & sinks right in, like you’re giving your skin a big drink of water.

  2. Good to know – though I have oily skin, so a whole different set of problems!
