Life with a toddler got a little…overwhelming this weekend, so while out on my weekly errand runs (God bless naptime and Football Sunday, thus granting me the time to do it alone) I stopped in to my local Ulta. I needed a little pick-me-up, but what would it be? A new lipgloss? Maybe a fresh nail polish? I wandered through the store, weighing my options, and came upon a Bare Escentuals display. Well, would you lookie here:

Ooo la la! Image from Ulta.com.
It’s the Bare Escentuals High Shine Eyeshadow, which I had never seen before. I tested a couple of them on my hand and thought the colors looked really cool – kinda shimmery, but not SO shimmery that you look like you just came back from Hookerville. I decided to get Moonshine, because 1) it was the last one in that color; 2) since I have green eyes, I tend to drift toward purples; and 3) it was the prettiest one. $16, plus I got a free sample of Bare Escentuals eye and foundation primers. Score!
So Monday morning, I go to apply the eyeshadow, and I discovered something that was surprising (to me) – this shadow is a powder, not a cream. I mean, I should have KNOWN because, you know – it’s mineral makeup and all – but I swear on everything that is holy, when I tested it on my hand I thought it was a cream. So I was more than a little surprised that half of what was on the wand ended up on my cheeks. And a whole LOT surprised that when I tried to brush the dark purple powder off my face, it looked like I was on the losing end of a butt-kicking contest. OH MY GOD. That’s not what I’d call a good look for a Monday morning! Luckily, I was able to wash my face and start over again, but for future reference I would definitely recommend a practice run before rushing around to get ready for work.
Do I recommend the product? Yeah, I think I do. The color looked great and lasted all day long; and once I got used to brushing as much as I could off the applicator BEFORE getting it all over my face, it was really easy to apply. It retails for $16 and is available in lots of different colors (I think Glisten is next on my list).
For those of you who love a good bargain, it’s excluded from coupons at Ulta; but if you’re looking for something to spend your VIB gift card on at Sephora, it’s available there, too. Happy shopping!
Disclosure blah blah: I received nothing except pretty eyes by writing this post. I bought this with my own money, and this post is not sponsored or affiliated with Bare Escentuals, Ulta or Sephora in any way. So there you have it.
