SkinCeuticals Rescues Winter Skin

skinceuticalsAah winter skin. For those of you lucky enough to live in say, San Diego, maybe you have no idea what I’m talking about. For the rest of us who started drying and cracking before our summer tans had even faded, I’m sure you hear me loud and clear.

When it comes to my face, winter wreaks specific havoc. The cold air outside and dry indoor heat sucks the moisture out of my skin so much that I have no desire to cleanse it; but the ultra-rich moisturizers I have to use make me prone to breakout so I must keep up the cleaning regime. I’ve yet to find the perfect balance of cleanser strong enough to prevent breakouts and gentle enough to keep my face from feeling like desert clay.

In comes SkinCeuticals Cleansing Cream. The cleansing creme has alpha hyroxy acids that exfoliate to remove all the unwanted dirt and grime and soothing minerals like aloe and comfrey to help repair your skin and maintain the moisture balance. I have to admit I was skeptical as AHA’s tend to dry me out even more, but I was pleasantly surprised when I wasn’t left with the tell-tale tightness that usually follows an AHA exfoliant. I noticed in one use the difference this cleanser made on my skin.

My other new favorite SkinCeuticals product is the Sheer UV Defense with SPF 50. It’s hard to remember why we use SPF in the winter but I know from experience that if I stop my skin looks awful pretty quick. It’s as if the minute I think I don’t need to protect my face from winter sun, the evidence of damage multiplies like wet Gremlins on my skin. The trick is to find a broad spectrum sunscreen that doesn’t feel like a sunscreen. The SkinCeuticals Sheer Defense does just that. It is so light and dries to a matte finish that you can wear it without any fear of it interfering with your foundation or makeup. The official directions suggest using it over your moisturizer, but while it isn’t a moisturizer per se it was enough during the day that I didn’t need anything additional to feel hydrated. I’m excited to see what if feels like and looks like in the summer. The matte finish will come in handy when the humidity kicks in and my faces takes on it’s typical summer shine.

I’m excited that for once, thanks to SkinCeuticals, winter won’t leave my skin itching for more humid days.
