Truth be told, I’m a makeup minimalist in the summer. I’m lucky enough to spend most of my days at the beach so my routine includes generous amounts of SPF30, and that’s about it. Even when I go out, it’s a little under eye concealer, mascara and liner. The thought of putting foundation on my face in the heat of summer gives me goosebumps, and they’re not the air conditioner kind.
I’m traveling this week to a one-day Writing Conference and BlogHer, a conference of 3000 fabulous women, so I need to look a little more presentable and professional than I do when I’m body surfing, and that means I need some sort of foundation to even out my over-tanned face.
I have tried just about every foundation out there, and they’re almost all too heavy for summer. And for me, tinted moisturizers just don’t provide enough color. What I found to work is a powder that I got in a Smashbox starter set some months ago. In cooler months, I love Smashbox High Definition Health FX foundation, and the kit I bought with it at Sephora also came with Halo Perfecting Powder.
I love this powder for so many reasons. The first is that it comes in an ingenious package where you turn the top in a circle and it “shaves” the pressed powder so that you end up applying loose powder. I always find loose gives better coverage without the cakey look you can sometimes get from pressed powder, but usually it’s a pain in the neck, especially for travel. So unlike loose, this can go nicely across the country in my suitcase without wreaking havoc with its mess. Also, unlike some loose powders, this formula isn’t translucent, meaning you get coverage on your face.
This is the perfect solution for someone like me who wants the polish of foundation in the summer but doesn’t want the weight or shine that can come from a liquid. Smashbox has just added new shades to their line so now you can get an even more perfect skin match than before. Perhaps I’ll even be able to hide my summer splotches!
