Shopping for a Cause with Socialvest

socialvestIt is no secret, I love to shop. But I have to admit, sometimes I feel that “stimulating the economy” is not sufficient to justify the amount of money I spend each week. We live within our means, but I realize that there are many who are struggling to get by day to day, and sometimes I wish I could do something to help. We do give to various organizations through the year, but I admit that it is all too easy to go along about my days and not think about those less fortunate than I.

What if, you could give back to a cause of your choice every time you shop!?

Well, now you can. With Socialvest.

Take a look at this video. It’s pretty cool and sort of puts a picture on what Socialvest is all about.

Basically, for every purchase you make at one of their retail partners, a percentage of that sale goes into your Socialvest account for you to give to the causes you care about. Pretty nifty, eh?

When I first heard about it, I admit I was skeptical. My first question was, which causes can I choose to support? I tend to prefer to support Christian organizations, and sometimes in these types of situations, there are none to choose from. I was thrilled to make a quick search and find a wide variety of faith as well as secular organizations. Compassion International, a charitable organization that I support regularly, is even on the list!

But is it easy to use?

Socialvest offered me a $50 American Express gift card so that I could see just how easy it is to shop and change the world. You go to their site and create a loggin (I did it through Facebook) and then you click “SHOP” and go to town! Different brands give different percentages of your purchase back to the cause of your choice, so take that into account when you decide where to shop. They have everything from apparel to sporting goods to electronics to even travel!

I went right to Apparel and clicked through to a few sites. You can search for a particular store or browse through to see what you might not have thought of. I decided to shop at Nordstrom because it will be easy to return anything that doesn’t work. I’ve been wanting a cool poncho, and while this isn’t exactly what I have in mind, it’s what I decided to order.

With this to go under it.

Won’t that be adorable paired with skinny jeans and boots or chucks?

I can’t wait for it to arrive.

Once you make your purchase, it takes a few days before you see your purchase post to your account with the amount you’ve earned. At that point you can donate the money right away or continue to shop and earn more. It is up to you to decide when and where you want to give.

Pretty cool, huh?

Definitely check it out! It’s a great way to give back while going about your daily tasks.
