Holiday Party Makeup

At holiday time, I always find myself hankering for a new look — especially for holiday parties and events. My favorite way to glam it up is to tweak my beauty routine. Here are is a festive look you can achieve with makeup from your local drugstore.

GO PLUM!

Right now plum is a big trend — especially in eye makeup. Plum is great on both brown and blue eyes, so it works for almost everyone.

Try this Maybelline Eye Studio Color Explosion Luminizing Eyeshadow in Amethyst.

Use the medium purple shade (the one in the V-formation) on your eyelid. Then apply the darkest royal purple (on the right of the compact) in the crease of your eyelid. The silver would make a great highlight along the brow bone, or maybe the lightest purple at the bottom. Then blend, blend, blend.

Try using a very fine makeup brush to apply the medium purple shade along the lower lash line. (I’m a huge fan of using eye shadow to line the lower lash line. It’s much softer than eye liner and easier to blend.)

You can complete the look with liquid eye liner and a volumizing mascara. If liquid eye liner makes you want to run and hide, you’re in luck. These days there are better options, like Covergirl’s Liquiline Blast Eyeliner Pencil.

This is not your mother’s eye liner! The Liquiline Eyeliner Pencil allows you to achieve the precision of liquid liner with the ease of a pencil. Best of all, it lasts all day (and all night)!

When you glam up the eyes, it’s best to go with a soft lip color. Make sure to select a shade that works with your skin tone. If you have a blue/red undertone to your skin, go with more of a rose-colored lip. If you have golden undertones, try peach. Drew’s look (pictured above) is the perfect example of this technique.

Happy Holidays!
