“Best in America” is a pretty bold statement. My husband told me he read about this place along our route of our most recent road trip and I was skeptical.
Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria. Ok, then. But then I saw it was called “Best” or “#1 in America” by places like Food and Wine, The Daily Meal, and Huffington Post.
Hummm… maybe it was worth the stop! It was even all over Pinterest!
So we made the stop…
We had to wait about 45 minutes for a table – even on a weekday afternoon, the line was out the door. But it was worth the wait.
We tried the pizza they are most famous for – the white clam pie – with freshly-shucked littleneck clams, an intense dose of garlic, olive oil, oregano, and grated cheese atop a charcoal-colored crust. YUM! For the kids we got a tomato pie with mozzarella, sausage and pepperoni.
Sometimes people exaggerate, but I can safely say this REALLY IS the best pizza I’ve ever had!! Our kids were raving over it – asking exactly how far it was from our house and if we could come again. Try the local Foxon Park soda as well – its a great way to add more local flavor to your meal.
