We’re not just redecorating our house, we’re in the midst of remodeling the entire thing! A task that has consumed almost all of our free time the past year. We’re loving the results, but the time crunch means filling our new space with furniture needs to be quick and easy. Lately we’ve been on the hunt for a piece that would integrate into our living room/dining room combination seamlessly. We do have some existing furniture, so the style and finish needed to be close or complementary to what we had already purchased. The goal is to transform the room into a place where we can all relax and watch a movie, but we haven’t quite made the leap of purchasing a tv to fill the space. So I’ve been looking for a piece that could function as a dining buffet for some of our extra place settings for now, but later be re-purposed as a media center!
Sauder made finding the perfect piece super easy. You can not only search by product type, but also by collection. Be forewarned though – there are tons of different collections of pieces. I ended up using the Style Lab function to narrow them down to the ones that really fit with our style. You basically pick your favorites from a series of images (flowers, colors, photographs, etc) and the tool returns three different collections that reflect your style. One of my three was the Edge Water Collection – where I eventually found the piece I was looking for!
The Edge Water Entertainment Center was delivered to our doorstep within a few days and then the fun began. I’m not quite as handy as my husband, so he took the lead in assembling our new piece while I kept our son from trying to help.
His take on the assembly? Easy as pie. The directions were clear and all of the pieces we needed were included in the package. All he needed to grab was a screwdriver to tighten a few screws. Overall, we were incredibly impressed with both the ease of construction and the quality of the materials. Unlike other modular furniture, this piece had sturdy construction and an elegant finish.
Once the Sauder entertainment center was assembled, we moved it to a wall in the living room where it will reside for the time being, acting as a dining buffet. I love that the shelves are adjustable, so I was able to make room for taller items like wine glasses. The small drawer on the bottom was perfect for holding extra linens like tablecloths and napkins.
There is a wood backing to this piece, but since we are currently using it as a buffet, we opted to leave it off and let the wall color shine through. When we eventually transition it to a media center with a tv, we will most likely add the backing on to secure the unit a bit more and give it a more traditional media center look.
Overall, we’re thrilled with the quality, look and ease of this Sauder entertainment center. I love how versatile it is and cannot wait to use it for other functions in our home!
What’s your favorite collection from Sauder? Have you ever re-purposed an entertainment center for a different function?
