There’s nothing like the lovely luxury of getting a blowout, especially when you know that there’s a photo opp on the horizon. But shelling out $50 or more for every wedding, cocktail party, baby shower, and beyond is just insane. This season I’ve been on the prowl for impossibly chic hairstyles that are easily attainable at home. It turns out that when it comes to doing your own hair, there is a happy place between looking so-so or spending way too much time and energy on the finished product. Here are some of my favorites.
The Rodarte-Inspired Rosette Braid
Steph Brinkeroff, a guest contributor at Latest-Hairstyles, says the look is easier to achieve than you might think. She recommends trying this one out on second-day hair, but I personally prefer to be freshly washed for a party. Either way, follow these six easy steps for a sweet and romantic look that everyone is sure to envy. Braid a medium-large section of hair backward on either side of the head, securing together at the back. Loosen each braid, messing them up a bit with your fingers. Wrap one braid around itself to create a small bun. Secure with bobby pins.
Braided Updo with Headband
You can make this extra-chic with a satin or velvet headband, or boho-gorg with a crown of flowers. Whichever angle you take, a braided updo is sophisticated enough that everyone will be asking where you got it done. I love this super-simple Pinterest photo tutorial from YetAnotherBeautySite. All you need are a headband, a handful of bobbies, and ten minutes or less to make it work.
Join the Chain Gang
You don’t need a perfect blowout, or even a bobby pin, for this fun look. Effortlessly romantic and yet edgy at the same time, a hair chain adds something special to even the most basic, grab-and-go hair. Let yours be wild and wavy, or sleek it up with a straightened coif like she’s done here. This chain is from one of my favorite Etsy vendors, Nayna Jewelry, where similar styles start at 10 bucks. Can you beat it?
A Modern Bun
With or without bangs, this gorgeous, Jackie O-ish style is absolutely covetable and seriously takes no time at all. Check out Jetting to the Wedding for the 7-step DIY deets on a look that’s sure to turn every head in the room.
