Every few months, I love to scope what’s new in the beauty aisle at the drugstore. I find that purchasing seasonal or trend-driven products at super-low prices is a great way to figure out if they’re right for me. (Why spend north of $30 on navy mascara if it ends up making you look weird?) So, here’s the latest from my most recent stock-up. To keep things easy, these are all available for purchase at Drugstore.com. But if you’re going stir-crazy at home like I am this winter, it might be worth it to head over to your nearest brick-and-mortar.
FACE
Liquid foundations create an even, dewy complexion. But not everyone likes to wear a full face of makeup. For mommies on the go, a powder option is often a great choice. Scope new Dermablend Loose Setting Powder — it won’t over-dry your skin, but will leave a soft and smooth texture behind, with no smudging for hours, whether you use it alone or over foundation. $24.
EYES
Eyeliner that stays put is a mommy must-have. I’m currently crushing on this Prestige waterproof liner. Apply in the morning and forget about it. You’ll be covered for wintry mixes and meltdowns from toddler to ‘tween. I love their black but consider also trying the Granite or punchy hunter green, Payday. $5.50 each.
LIPS
Winter lips are dry, cracked, and less than ideal for your favorite sticks. And while lip gloss definitely gives you a moisture boost, you can’t go wrong with some gentle, targeted exfoliation. Remove dead skin cells for a softer, smoother lip with e.l.f. professional lip exfoliator, $2.69.
… which creates a perfect surface for piling on your favorite hues. This is nothing new but one of my all-time favorite lipsticks is CoverGirl Lip Perfection. The rich and creamy formula is perfect for this time of year and delivers plenty of potent color. Might I suggest trying out a shade darker than your usual this season? If you typically reach for candy pinks, try Fervor, a sultry mauve. More of a raspberry girl? I love Eternal. And those drawn to red will look lovely in Burn. $6 each.
