As the trends turn away from a thick, dark strip of monotonous lashes and toward generous, pretty lengths with a more natural feel, we couldn’t be more excited. Embrace the new with a few falsies mixed in among your real fringe, or simply up the ante with a strong, come-hither mascara. Here are some favorites:
I’ve tried just about every “lengthening” mascara on the market and the truth is, most of them don’t do a whole lot in terms of creating actual length. Pop Beauty Lash Extension is a clear exception — the fibers in this smart little tube attach to lashes, extending to make them look as much as twice as long. Even with a neutral, makeup-free face on a Tuesday morning, a couple sweeps of this wonder product and you are squarely on Planet Gorgeous. $18.50, Dermstore.com.
If you want to go false, may we recommend individuals instead of strips? Use a tweezer to pick up the lashes at the tip and dip the roots in a little drop of glue so a nice-sized dot covers it. Slowly affix the lashes as close to the eyelid as you can, resting on the root of the natural ones near by. Repeat three or four time on each eye, focusing on the outer edges. Let dry. Apply mascara sweeping upward on the underside of the lashes, fanning out. Done! We like these from Sephora, now on sale for $5 a pack.
Or, go no-maintenance with an awesome drugstore mascara. My current favorite is New York Color Big Bold Volume by the Lash mascara, $4.99, which actually does exactly what its name implies. Lately, in my newborn-induced state of zombiedome, this is about the only thing I can get it together to put on my face, and friends and loved ones all agree — I totally look alive. NewYorkColor.com for where-to-buy.
