Mommy Wants Candy, Too

Gone are the days when hearing the words “Hard Candy” called to mind silvery-blue liquid eyeliner (though you can totally still get that if it’s your thing). But if like me you’d rather leave the dramatic liners to the teen set, there’s still a color-packed, stay-put, affordable makeup item (or ten) for you from Hard Candy.

I recently stumbled upon my new favorite lip gloss, Plumping Serum in Mistress. I took it for a test-drive on a Tuesday morning when everything seemed out of reach, including a cute face. As any mom with an infant or the memory of an infant can understand, getting a shower and a hot cup of coffee in are virtually impossible at this point. So, when my mom caught me for a mid-morning FaceTime she was literally flabbergasted at my face:

“Jenny! You’re wearing lip-stick. You look gorgeous.”

{Insert meek, guilty shrug here}

The grand irony is, I’m a beauty blogger and have been writing professionally in the field since I graduated from college more years ago than I’d like to admit. My bathroom drawers are stocked with full-size samples of everything from Maybelline balms to Dior eyemakeup remover, and the first picture to hit social media a mere 35 minutes after giving birth to my daughter reveals a woman with expertly applied eyeliner. But oh, how the mighty have fallen. The girl who used to require foundation, concealer, mascara, and gloss as a baseline before so much as taking out the trash is now shocking even her own mother with a lip-stick.

Here’s the best part. It’s not even a stick. This gorgeous gloss goes on easily without that dreaded sticky feeling, leaving lips soft, fortified, and rich in color. I also discovered that an extra ten minutes to my routine allowed me to put to good use the brand’s makeup primer, a few hues from this sweet shadow palette, and their smart two-in-one blusher stick, among other items.

It seems Hard Candy the brand has grown up right alongside the adolescent devotees we once were. Find the affordably priced line at Walmart and pucker up today.
