Summer is almost here,so for most of Philadelphia, that means one thing:It’s time to hit the Jersey Shore! Everyone is ready for some sand, sea and sun. After the long, cold winter, all I want to do is soak up as much of summer as possible.
We have gone to the Jersey Shore every summer since we moved to Philadelphia 15 years ago. We’ve vacationed there with family, friends and even on our own a few times. From the beach, to the boardwalk, its one of our favorite places on Earth.

We have our routine down for a day at the beach. When we head out for a day trip, we bring everything we need to have a great day!

Our tips for a perfect day at the shore?
- Keep it neat before you leave! Between the wind and the water, me and my girls’ long hair, gets a little crazy on the beach. Using Pantene Expert Intense Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner makes a huge difference! The Intense Smooth collection has one of Pantene’s most concentrated Pro-V formulas for instant frizz control – even when I’m facing a humid day at the beach. I also make sure to have my . It keeps me dry with no yucky residue on my bathing suit.
- Get there early! You’ll find better (even free) parking and secure a great spot on the beach.
- Bring cash! Many Jersey beaches require a beach pass, which you can purchase from a lifeguard. Remember:they only take cash, so plan accordingly. Plus, the kids may want an ice cream or popsicle :-).
- Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! We don’t mess around when we’re in the sun all day! We reapply about every two hours and pay special attention to the kids little noses and shoulders! All of us wear rashguards to protect against the hot sun, too, which makes a huge difference!
- Pack some shade! An umbrella, or canopy, will give you must needed shade and relief from the sun.
- Hydrate! Its easy to get dehydrated when you are swimming all day, especially for the kids. Lugging a big cooler is a pain, but you need lots of drinks to keep from ending up with cranky kids with headaches. Hydrating snacks are great too – watermelon, grapes, and cucumbers make refreshing beach snacks.
- Wash up! We always hit the showers before driving back to Philly, since 99.9% of the time the kids all fall asleep after a big beach day! I always include Wash in my beach bag. This bright citrus scent is so refreshing after a day at the beach!! It also moisturizes, so even skin that’s a bit too sun kissed feels amazing.
Now go soak up those summer days!
