What’s at My Bathroom Sink

When it comes to skincare, I’m a no-fuss type of gal.

The reason is twofold:

First, I have a very small window of time to get ready in the morning. It’s just not feasible for me to follow sixty-bajillion steps to beautiful skin.

Secondly, when the end of the day rolls around, I want to go to bed. Quickly. I’m lazy not the kind of person who will stick to a very detailed skincare regimen.

My skin is pretty normal, although it leans toward the dry side — especially in winter. Like Trina, I’ve never suffered from acne and, truth be told, my skin can tolerate quite a bit of abuse. I do try and use more natural-based skincare products, because I think quality ingredients are important whenever anything is going to be absorbed by your skin — especially when you’re talking about face creams.

So, with that said, here’s what I use:

Eye Makeup Remover: EVOO

Yep. As in Extra Virgin Olive Oil. I took an empty squirt bottle and filled it with olive oil straight from my pantry. Before I go to bed each evening, I pour a little bit on a cotton ball, swipe it over my eyes and my makeup is removed. It’s easy. It’s 100% natural. And, I like to think all the olive oil applied to the eye area will help prevent crows feet (though I have no hard scientific data on that).

Cleanser: Tropical Traditions Unscented Liquid Soap

unscented liquid soapI love this soap. It’s got one ingredient: saponified organic virgin coconut oil. That’s it. No sulfates or ingredients I can’t pronounce. It’s got one of those foaming dispensers, so the soap is all fluffy and sudsy going on. It does a great job cleansing and never leaves my skin feeling tight and dry. Plus, it lasts for-evah. It’s like an endless bottle and you can buy 32-ounce refills. It will sting like crazy if you get it in your eyes, though. Consider yourself warned.

Cream: Tropical Traditions Baby Silk Moisturizing Cream

This cream is my all-time favorite. It’s really thick and rich — so I use it only at night. The ingredients are all natural with no alcohols, artificial fragrances or petroleum. It feels a little greasy when you first apply it, but that’s because of the lack of alcohols to speed absorption into the skin. It only takes a minute for the lotion to fully absorb, and after that my skin is left feeling really hydrated. I swear my skin looks better — almost brighter — every time I use this cream. (And it’s 40% off through August 29th!)

I use coconut oil to remove eye makeup. I love finding something to easy and natural like that! I want to try that cleanser; it sounds like just what I need.

Olive oil? Really? Does it leave your face feeling oily?
I’ve always hated removing eye makeup because it stings, so maybe this is the way to go.

I only use it to remove my eye makeup. I use a little bit — start slowly. If you use too much, it can feel really gloppy on your eyelashes. I start with maybe a dime-sized squirt on a cotton ball. I see how much that takes off and may need one extra squirt to finish.

Eye makeup remover always stings my eyes. That’s why I switched to the olive oil.

    Hope that helps!

I’ve been doing the oil cleansing method now for about 2 months and use castor oil and EVOO, a ratio of 50/50. I was so hesitant to try it as my skin is oily and I’ve dealt with acne since a teenager. I started off washing my face like this only a few times a week, but now I wash it every night like this and put the EVOO under my eyes hoping to help with fine lines :) My skin has actually improved greatly, feels softer, pores seem to be smaller, and my face is not as oily.
