Last fall sometime, when I had my midlife hair crisis, and got four haircuts in six weeks (or something like that, who’s counting?) I went on a rampage to find products that might salvage what hair I had left.
One such product was Nexxus Retexxtur. I read somewhere in my Internet travels that a short, choppy cut such as my own at the time could be enhanced by a wax. So I sought out this "styling putty" that claimed to, among other things, "add distinctive definition to short hair".
The next day, I washed and styled my hair and then went to apply my new styling putty. When I opened the jar and dipped my fingers in, I pulled out this long string of goo. It was almost the consistency of old chewing gum. Skeptical, I went ahead and tried to applied it to my hair and started scrunching.
Either this stuff is old or defective, or it is the worst product ever to hit the market, but it did not work into my hair at all. Rather, it made tiny balls and long strings of goo in my hair, much like that nasty "rubber cement" glue that we used in elementary school — the stuff that one of my classmates used to paint inside her desk so that she could roll it up and make a bouncy ball out of it.
I thought perhaps it would work better on wet hair, but when I tried it on my wet hair the next morning, it did the same thing. I intended to take it back to the drug store and complain, but here it sits, months later, on my computer desk, amidst papers and granola bar wrappers and all sorts of equally important paraphernalia.
Procrastinate much?
I’m afraid the statute of limitations has run out on my return, but I refuse to put it in its grave, or the nearest trash can, before I give it a scathing review here on Chic Critique.
So there you have it. Consider yourself warned. Stay far, FAR away from Nexxus Retexxtur. It’s definitely a waste of ten bucks if I ever saw one.
