No, I'm Not A Mime. Or A Geisha.

At one of my {many} trips to Sephora, I came away with a free sample of High Definition Microfinish Powder by Makeup Forever.  It looked like this.

1powder

At first glance, I was confused.  I mean, it’s clearly white.  WHY would I want to put white powder all over my face***** Isn’t the point of makeup to look natural***** So of course, like a dork, I asked the sales associate why the powder was white.

She explained that it goes on clear and blends into the color of your skin and makeup for a natural look, thus eliminating the need to match skin tones.

The website explains more thoroughly:

What it is:
A universal translucent finishing powder to be applied over foundation or worn alone.

What it does:
Sets
the foundation and slightly mattifies skin without changing its natural
contours. This 100% Mineral Silica Powder softens the appearance of
imperfections.  Completely evens out the complexion for a glowing,
radiant look.  One universal shade for all skin tones.

What else you need to know:
It’s
completely translucent and goes on any skintone.  It’s talc-free formula
does not dry the skin and is formulated with 100% silica.  Has a soft
focus effect for HD Cameras and helps reduce the appearance of fine
lines, wrinkles, and imperfections. Dermatologically tested, Talc free.

I was dubious, but it was free, so I took it home and tried it.  After applying my foundation primer and foundation (ooh! ooh! I have new information on the foundation front — I’ll share with you on Wednesday in Tips and Tricks) and blush, I took my big fluffy powder brush, dipped it in the loose powder, and banged it real good on the side of the sink.  Then I lightly applied over my entire face.

And you know what, it’s pretty cool.  It’s fairly sheer and at first has a lighter tint to it, but after a bit it blends into the makeup beneath it and looks quite natural.  I don’t know if I’d shell out $30 to buy my own (I might be inclined to try a cheaper brand), but I like the overall concept of the universal translucent powder.

Do you have a favorite translucent powder***** Do tell!

  1. thanks for the comments… might have to check this out!

  2. I have this powder, too, and I really like it. The only problem is that when I, uh, glisten, the powder beads up on my face in little WHITE spots. White as in the color of the powder in the jar. Did you notice this, too?
