Guest Blogger: Chel on Poetic Waxing

Chel is a working mama of two kids (10 and 4) living in Central Florida,
loving the weather, trying to look good while holding it all
together… or at least tucking it all in somewhere it can’t be seen. A
bit of an Ebay/BookMooch/Coke Rewards addict, she writes about it all
at Chasing Contentment.

There’s soft music playing in the background, and you’re reclining
comfortably in a soft chair. The warmth and pressure on your forehead
is comforting and… RIIPPPP! Aigghhhh! You suck in your breath, trying
not to look like a wimp while wondering to yourself why you pay someone
every few weeks to torture you like this.

It’s easy. No one wants a uni-brow.

But
now, with gas at $4 a gallon and milk at unspeakable prices, we’re all
having to make some cutbacks, and beauty treatments are always some of
the first to get cut. But, again with the uni-brow. What’s a girl to do?

Poetic Waxing. I swear. It’s perfect.

Now,
I know lots of you are saying there’s no way you could develop the
finesse to wax your eyebrows at home. And some of you are saying you’ve
tried the sugar waxes and only ended up with a sticky mess. I promise
this is different. And seriously, what are you paying to have your brows
done? $15? $20? The entire Poetic Waxing kit is only $45, so you’re not risking much.

I’m
so completely addicted to this stuff that I’ve recommended it to
people… shoot, I’ve given it as a gift! So I’m going to tell you
step-by-step how to do this and love it.

You’re going to take
the little cup and put it in a little pan of water and slowly heat it
till it melts. This is not a quick process. Read a magazine, put the
kids to bed, whatever. Don’t rush it. And whatever you do, don’t
microwave it! You’ll end up with hot spots that are way hotter than
what your skin can take. Do the slow melt and all will be well.

In
your kit, you’ll get two small bottles of magic potions. Use the first
to cleanse the area you’re going to wax. Use the second liberally over
the same area. Let me say that again. Use it liberally.

Then
take your plastic spatula (the smaller one works best for brows, and
the bigger one for other areas) and dip it into the wax. Twist the
spatula to grab the excess that might drip, and apply it to your brows
against the direction the hair grows. Wait a moment or two and let it
dry. You don’t want it crackly-dry but you don’t want it tacky either.
Stretch the skin taut and pull — again, against the direction of
growth. All done.

For your first time or two, just do the little
area where you furrow your brow. When you get more comfortable, go
ahead and arch those babies. There’s plenty to do your legs, too, if
you’re so inclined. It works wherever you might have rotten stray
little hairs.

You’re going to love it. I swear. It’s easy to do at home and far less expensive than
at the salon. You can get it online at drugstore.com or in stores like Sephora.

And
now, one last tip — if you feel brave and decide to do your bikini
line, DON’T. Convenience and expense aside, there are some things
that should be done by professionals. Trust me on this. There’s nothing
pretty about a grown woman crying in the bathroom as she tries to pull
dried wax off her very delicate area.

  1. So true! This has been a fav product of mine for years. I’m a beauty clutz, and using Poetic Waxing is just as easy as Chel describes. Really!

  2. I have my chin and lip waxed regularly. Does this product cause break-outs?

  3. I’ve used this for years and never had any breakouts from it.

  4. I’m totally gonna buy this.
