Cutting Out Cutout Booties

This summer I was appalled by all the women wearing those hideous Gladiator sandals. You know the ones…

In this case, it is most definitely not right to do as the Romans do!  I just couldn’t get past thinking about the tan lines left behind.

Anyways, to say that I was happy that fall weather was coming so I could bid a fond farewell to all those straps and buckles would be an understatement.  I was more like ecstatic.

Being a shoe person I was curious to see what the fall fashion shoe was going to be.  I couldn’t wait to find the latest style and head to my nearest shoe store to try them out for you all (I know, the sacrifices I have to make of writing reviews). As I was perusing my latest In Touch magazine (what can I say, it’s my vice) my curiosity was finally satisfied.  Evidently Cutout Booties are the new cool, chic shoes that can be worn with everything.  At least according to the magazine article.

Here are some examples of what they talked about…

What do I think?  I think I was happier with the gladiator shoes.  Who wants fall/winter shoes with straps and open toes?  Not me.  Boots are meant to be closed to keep the tootsies warm.  Not to mention the ankle thing.  I can do CLOSED boots at the ankle for under jeans, but with skirts, dresses, and skinny jeans (not that I own those either), it’s not working for me.  Wouldn’t it break up the leg, erasing the allusion of height, which is my main purpose for wearing heels?

I’m just not digging it.  What about you?  Will you be jumping on the bootie bandwagon of fall fashion?  Or will you be opting for full coverage?  What about the ankle height?  Yay or Nay?  I can’t wait to hear your opinion.

  1. Um. UGH. Blech. That about says it. I don’t see the attraction AT ALL. I do like a bootie (UNDER PANTS!) and wear them ALL the time in the winter. But no holes please.

  2. I agree. Those look terrible!

  3. One word. FUGLY:)

  4. One word. FUGLY:)

  5. Oh, I am SO with you on this one. Supremely ugly and totally impractical.

  6. I’m with you, Mel. No cut outs. Ankle-high booties with pants only.

  7. Oh thank you, a voice of reason! I was horrified when I got my Saks Fifth Avenue shoe catalog in the mail and saw that these ‘booties’ were the ‘it’ shoe!

To me they are not flattering at all. They make short women look shorter and thicker, and they make tall women (like myself) look like they have disfigured legs!

  8. Oy those make my head hurt (and I’m sure my feet would soon follow if I wore them). Living in the land of “plenty” (of SNOW) I won’t be sporting those, that’s for sure.

  9. totally weird!

  10. I think they are kind of cute. You don’t have to wear them with a dress. They would look great with a pair of jeans or slacks. Women still wear strappy or open-toe shoes in the evening in winter. Depends on where you live.
I live in the south…tootsies might get a bit chilled running from car to party..but once inside, you will be stylin’

  11. Personally, I think the black & (1st) pair of brown boots are really cool and have a ultra modern edge to them!

Would I wear them no… That’s better left for a 19 or 20 something, that doesn’t have to pop in an out of a van all day!

Are they appropriate for the winter, of course not! I still think they’re cutting edge!

  12. Um…..I think those ankle boots should have stayed in the 80s. I know fashion tends to repeat itself but clearly some of it shouldn’t… :O)

  13. Yuck! I’m a shoe lover and like to try fun new shoes, but at least at this point, no interest in these. Though sometimes I have changed my mind about a style after it has been around for a while.
