I’ve been cursed with bad skin. You name a skin condition and I’ve either had it or at one time thought that I had it. The downside is that I’ve spent a lot of money and earned a lot of frustration (fine lines), but the good news is that I know a thing or three about making problem skin look problem-free.
The underbelly
The best piece of skin care advice I’ve received came from my esthetician. She said, “If all you do next to sun block is apply a thin layer of aloe vera beneath your make-up, you’ll keep yourself looking young and fresh every day. ť
She’s right. I think aloe vera is the wonder skin care potion. It’s gentle and soothing for sensitive skin and in combination with a good moisturizer it can be ultra-moisturizing for dry skin.
A world of color above the belly
The next step in taming misbehavin’ skin is the use of multi-colored concealer. There are many foundations and powders that conceal blemishes and discoloration pretty well, but I’m a firm believer in a little spot cover. Here’s why:
-
Pink toned concealers will mask under eye circles better than just plain concealer and foundation.
-
Green concealer does a good job of masking redness. My brand of choice is Maybelline Cover Stick Protector. It’s inexpensive and easy to find because its one of the few green concealers sold at the drug store.
-
White concealer will help mask discoloration. If you have any kind of hyperpigmentation or pesky freckles that you want covered, a white concealer under foundation is your best bet.
It’s like building blocks
The final approach to improving the look of your troubled complexion is to use a foundation that you can build upon easily. A popular foundation is Bobby Brown’s Foundation Stick. Whether applied with your finger tips or brush, its easily blendable. I like it because I can use more of it in the areas that need the most coverage and still keep an even, natural-looking base. Its also easy to carry around so I can use it for spot cover and touch up later in the day.
