“With all the fun, cute, shoes out there, why would anybody put those on her feet?” That was pretty much my reaction a few years ago when I opened a magazine and saw some teen diva sporting Uggs. Of course she was wearing them with short, shorts and layered tank tops, which did nothing for the boots, but I still wasn’t impressed. As time went on, though, I have to admit that Uggs grew on me more and more. However, for as much as they were growing on me, others’ distaste of them was also increasing. Such a controversy shoes have never inspired, well except maybe for the Croc debate, but we’ll save that for another post!
Anyways, two years ago I caved. I put “Uggs, Chestnut, Size 8” on my Christmas wish list. Evidently, so had everybody else considering my husband had to go everywhere including down under getting me a pair. However, my Santa came through and I was sporting my Uggs on Christmas Day.
That’s when it happened. You know the story… girl puts on boots, boots feel oh so soft, girl falls in love. I was hooked. My Uggs became my comfort shoe. My casual Friday footwear. I took them on weekend getaways, girls nights out, shopping trips, and just wore them around the house. We were inseparable.
Until I saw these…
Skip forward a year to last Christmas where on the top of my Christmas list you would have read “Uggs, Chocolate Brown, Size 8.” Yep, I fell in love all over again.
I realize though that the intensity of my love of Uggs may only be rivaled by others’ disgust of them. So now I ask you. What do you think about them? Do you own a pair of Uggs? Wish that you did? Or are you of the same opinion as my son who believes that “Ugg” is short for Uuuugly (yes, that is exactly how he says it every time he sees me wearing mine!)?
Don’t worry about hurting my feelings either. I know where my heart belongs!

Oh yeah, I got a pair. I mean they are truly the most comfortable boots and shoes ever. That lamb’s wool is out of this world.
Blessings,
Sher
I finally broke down and got these in the dark brown color. http://www.uggaustralia.com/ProductDetails.aspx?gID=w&productID=5139 They ARE so very comfortable. I also picked up a pair of dressier black boots (not Uggs though) this weekend. I just DETEST being cold, so this tall boot trend is working for me! My eyes have adjusted, and the classic Uggs aren’t so uuuuugly to me, lol, but I do prefer some of the other styles. I wish I’d tried the ones you have, just to see if mine are as comfy. I have a feeling yours might be more comfy. Is there sheepskin on the top and bottom? It’s just on the top of mine, so I still wear socks.
LOVE THEM. Obsessed would be a good word. It took me quite awhile to want some too. I have two pair, same colors as yours. Wear them every day, mainly the chocolate ones this year. I think I’m gonna put another pair on my wishlist, because of anything I could possibly get for Christmas, those I would use the most.
Uggs are short for ug…. well, you know where I’m going with this. I think they are about as attractive as Crocs. But if they keep your feet warm on a freezing, snowy day my motto is to wear them! You should see my big clonking Columbia snow boots.
I kinda like those that Jo-Lynne linked to, but in general, I like more feminine footwear. Though I am inclined to go along with T – sometimes a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do to keep her tootsies warm.
They’re slowly growing on me. I think they can look uber-chic on some people. I’m just not sure I can pull it off. What do you wear yours with, Mel? I’m assuming you tuck your jeans into them, right?
I think they look like slippers and I bet they’d keep my feet warm on my cold floors in the winter…But wool makes me itch, so I probably couldn’t stand to wear them and I don’t know if I’d actually want to wear them out of the house because they look like slippers.
Did I mention that they look like slippers?
As I post this comment, I am wearing my pink short Uggs 🙂 I love them and have a couple pairs. I love wearing the short ones around the house and my tall tan pair throughout the winter. they are so comfy and toasty warm. Not sure I would sport them with shorts, as I am usually wearing flip flops when it is “shorts season”…
So I say – wear them loud and proud 🙂
Sorry – not a fan. They kinda rank right up there with crocs for me. I’m sure that they are comfortable and I’ve maybe seen a cute teen with them on, but that’s about it. 🙂
i.
LOVE.
my.
uggs.
i don’t care how ugly they are. they keep my freezing feet toasty warm!!!
I didn’t like them at first either. But now I keep looking at them and thinking why not? LOL My question though is what to wear with them. Do you tuck in the jeans? Or put them over? Wear them with skirts/skorts? Dresses? Shorts? I’m not ‘lean and lanky’ right now so I’m not sportin that diva body so I don’t think I can pull off the shorts thing.
Oh and do they get ruined wearing them in wet weather (snow, rain, etc.)?
Such mixed feelings about uggs – I think at the end of the day, I am jealous of the people who pull them off. Aesthetically, I don’t love them, but any day now, I feel like I might cave in!
The first year they were out my sister had some I thought they wre ridiculous. Now, they are totally on my Christmas list. I saw the other comments about how they are like Crocs. I think if you would wear Crocs, you would probably wear Uggs. I love my Crocs also…
