EcoTools Make-Up Brushes

The time had come for me to finally break down and buy some new make-up brushes. I was holding out until I could purchase some rather pricey ones, but I could wait no longer. My old ones were shedding all over my face.

Aside from not wanting my friends picking little hairs off my face all the time, having good make-up brushes is important to me. I purchased some eye make-up brushes 12 years ago that are still in excellent condition. With the right care, they can last for a very long time.

So, I headed to our local Ulta cosmetics store to check some out. I needed a blush brush and a powder brush, which just happen to be two of the more expensive ones.

Imagine my excitement when I picked out these brushes from EcoTools and the woman helping me told me they were some of the best brushes they sell despite the low cost at roughly $10 each! She said they cannot keep them in stock. Sold! Not one to let a good deal go and often one to join the crowd, I left there with both a powder and blush brush for under $20. Most quality brushes cost more than that for EACH brush.

Okay, so what do I love other than the fantastic price?

They are Eco-Friendly. I might as well be able to apply my make-up and be green, right?

The handle is made of Bamboo which is incredibly durable and a highly sustainable plant – meaning it grows quickly so it is easily replaced and uses less of our natural resources. Plants like Bamboo are good for the environment.

As if helping to save the planet with my make-up brush is not good enough, I like the look of the wood much better than plastic and it just feels better in my hand.

The bristles are not real hair. Now, I know that some of you may not like this in a make-up brush. The only difference that I can tell is that these are softer than my real hair brushes and I actually like them better. The EcoTools are incredibly soft. I love putting them on my face because they feel really nice.

The bristles are made from synthetic Taklon and are 100% cruelty free. As a matter of fact, brushes made with Taklon are said to be better than those made with real hair and many higher-end make up companies like Urban Decay and Studio Direct are using it in their brushes.

And to top it all off… The sleek ferrule (the thingy that holds the bristles to the handle) is made from recycled aluminum, and the cases that hold them are made from natural cotton and hemp. Both highly sustainable plants, which we just covered. It’s good for our planet.

You can purchase these brushes at Ulta Cosmetic Stores, Target, and Walgreens.

So how do you take care of your new brushes? Another post, another time!

  1. My 2YO “hid” my Chanel blush brush & I can’t afford to replace it! I may just be heading to Ulta this weekend! Thanks!

  2. I am in dire need of a new blush brush. I’m pretty sure I’ve had mine for five years, and it is falling apart. Guess I’ll be off to Ulta this weekend! Thanks Janel!

  3. Good point about the eye brushes, Erin. I don’t have any of the Eco brushes for my eyes.

My more expensive eye brushes are made with a shorter and stiffer type of bristle, which could be why they seem as soft as these new bigger brushes.

The true test in a make-up brush is how long it lasts. So, I will have to write an update on these Ecotools in a year or so. 🙂 I just hope they are as soft as they are now and don’t shed.

Thanks for stopping by my friends!

I meant why they DON’T seem as soft.

    I should have said

    its late….

  5. I was in the same predicament about a month ago. The set that I thought I wanted was $80. I saw an ad in a magazine, and bought the ECO brush set at Walgreens. I don’t think the eye brushes are quite as soft as my old ones, but they’re definitely ok, and much cheaper…

  6. I’ve been thinking about getting myself a second set of brushes for my gym bag. I can get a whole set of these brushes at Target for $10 and they are more environmentally friendly? That is at least worth trying.

I have never tried these brushes – thanks for the tip!
