Do your tops suffer from fuzzy sweater syndrome?

I don’t know about you, but when I look down and notice my sweater is fuzzy in all the wrong places, I get a little embarrassed and start picking it off. The underarm area tends to be the worst.

(Slightly problematic when one is sitting in a place where one shouldn’t pick at one’s clothes. Like church.)

And I realize some of us are about to start phasing out of cold-weather clothing, but I found this handy little tool that easily scrapes the piled lint off of your sweaters (even delicate woven fabric) and wanted to share.

Restora Fuzz Removal Comb

The one I have is by Restora but there are a few other brands available of basically the same thing. It works just like a comb; you hold the fabric taut and scrape off the little balls of piled fuzz. Magic, I say.

This is a knee-length, belted sweater jacket I pulled out of my closet to experiment on:

BEFORE:

sweater-before

AFTER (on right side of buttons; I did not comb the left side for the sake of comparison):

sweater-after

(Excuse the closet wrinkles. Ahem.)

I got my fuzz-removal comb as a stocking stuffer, but you can find them easily through a shopping engine search like this one.

Easy-peasy and good as new!

  1. I kissed my aunt when she tucked one of these babies in with my Christmas gift a few years ago. I had always wondered how she managed to keep her entire wardrobe pill-free. The sweater comb is her secret weapon.
It works on any clothing that pills: sweaters, fleece, wool coats. Great tip!

  2. I’m so glad you mentioned this! A few years ago, we had a battery-operated clothes shaver – kind of a pain and would sometimes snag the material. I didn’t know about this comb and many of my sweaters desperately need it. Can’t wait to get one. Thanks!

  3. This is much classier than the disposable razor I use, but that will do in a pinch!

  4. Wow — that did a great job! That’s a very handy little tool to have on hand! I used to have a little battery operated one — but this looks like it works much better.

  5. This is a great product!

  6. Very cool. I’ll have to get one of those.

  7. I’m not packing my sweaters away for awhile…and I must have one of those. Thanks for enlightening me!

  8. Thanks for the tip! It would be nice to pack all the sweaters away looking good this year ready to pull out in the fall. If this trick really works it may even save a few tops from the GoodWill bag :o)

  9. Cool! I need one of those!

  10. I have never seen this before and oh how I need it! I have many sweaters that are full of those little fuzzy balls. Thanks for sharing such a useful product. Oh and welcome aboard!!

  11. I also read somewhere you could use a pumice stone. I guess I’d need to get a separate one than the one I use on my feet (ew!)
Off to check out the price of the comb. It worked great on your sweater!
