I am as close as I will ever get to having hair of spun silk like Rapunzel

Hey all.

It’s my inaugural post here at Chic Critique and I would be lying if I told you all I wasn’t even a bit nervous.

I’m sort of way nervous.

Anyway, I’m Lisa from Take 90 West.

I’d love to insert a picture of myself here but I’m right in the middle of moving this week, and I can honestly tell you 1) I don’t know where my camera is and 2) I have no idea how to get pictures off of my cell phone.

You can see why I haven’t been asked to join any of the tech blogs.

I haven’t done a whole lot of posting about beauty, fashion, and fitness on my personal blog so this is a whole new area of blogging for me. I’m excited to share a few things that I love with you and in return, I’m hoping to learn A LOT to enhance my (struggling) beauty regime.

I can usually be found most days with my hair in a ponytail or some variation of a messy knot that I try to pass off as being totally on purpose.

ahem.

I haven’t always been a lazy hair styler.

In my youth, I would rise at 5:30 am to get my curling iron heated up and doing my hair would take at least 45 minutes, using no less than three different products.

Most of them of the Aussie variety.

Nowadays (and how old do I sound saying nowadays?) sleep trumps good hair almost every day and I can be found throwing my wet hair into a knot as I am walking out the door in the morning get-to-school rush. Sadly, some days, it’s not even wet.

One product that I use every time I wash my hair, or as many times as close to that as I remember, is Biosilk Silk Therapy.

biosilk

After shampooing, and while my hair is still wet, I take a very small amount (about the size of a dime) and run it through my hair from roots to ends. The first thing I always notice is the great smell. On days when I do blow dry my hair, using Biosilk actually seems to make the styling easier. My hair stays smoother and straighter, I have noticeably less fly-aways and my hair feels so good. Silky, even. I wouldn’t say my hair is a shiny as a shampoo girl commercial, but it is noticeably shinier than on days when I use nothing at all.

The key to Biosilk is to use a very small amount. Too much, and your hair will be as greasy as if you hadn’t washed it in four days. Not a good look, Interpeeps.

Biosilk is also great for children’s hair. I use it on each of my girls after their nightly shower and their hair isn’t all bed-heady and tangled the next morning. It gives even their thin hair smoothness and great shine.

I can honestly say, I love this stuff. It smells amazing, and it always leaves my hair soft and shiny. Also, since I’ve started using it, I have had no static problem to speak of, which is a relief here in the dry Midwest winter. It can also be used on skin, and I have moisturized my legs and arms with good results, but I find the price point a little bit high to use it liberally on my skin as often as needed. And, AND! the stuff smells so good. Did I mention that?

Biosilk can be found at Target , Ulta or online. A 2.26 oz. bottle is about thirteen dollars. (There are larger size bottles available as well.) It’s not cheap, but when I think of all the miscellaneous things that I drop ten or fifteen dollars on throughout the week, it’s doable.

And the smell? Worth it.

  1. YUM. I’ve seen that stuff and wondered about it. Now I must try it!

  2. My daughter’s fine hair always seems to have annoying little fly-aways — even after I pull it up. I may have to give this a shot!

  3. I love Biosilk, too! At least I do when I use it, which isn’t very often because I forget. But when I use it, I always think, “I should use this more often!” And I hadn’t thought about putting on my daughter’s hair after a bath – that’s a good idea, because her super-fine hair looks like a Brillo pad when she wakes up in the morning!

  4. Hi, I’m Kelly, and I’m another wet-hair-in-a-knot late-morning riser.

(Like you, I avoid the word lazy stylist.)

I’ll have to try this. One of the reasons I hate drying my hair (besides the fact that it takes freakin’ forever) is that it makes my hair fly-away. Letting it air dry cuts down on that. But maybe with this product….

  5. i love this stuff and use it everyday, as well. you can also find it at costco- at least you can in utah.

  6. I am going to have to try this! I will use anything with a good smell…whether I need it or not.

Thanks for the tip. So glad you are contributing!

  7. I have never tried it, but I will give it a shot. I want silky Rapunzel hair! 🙂

  8. I think I’m going to have to give in and try it. I’ve been reading about it for years. And my hair? It’s neglected and could use a little boost.

  9. I love stuff that makes my hair smell good. I will check this out Lisa. Thanks

  10. I use this product and have for years! I love it and have had the misfortune of using too much and looking like a greaseball (not a good look if you are trying to impress).

  11. Awesome post, Lisa. You didn’t sound a bit nervous! I’m going to have to sniff your hair a little next time I see you, just so you know. Just ignore me.

  12. I use Biosilk when after I straighten my hair but I have never thought about using it when it’s wet. I also love the idea of using it on my kids hair!

  13. I have used this for years, and have perfected its application. I get compliments on my hair ALL the time. No Kidding!!! Even from strangers in public…..’what shine’ ‘your hair is so healthy’….stuff like that.

It is AMAZING! No lie. I don’t use anything else…no thermal whatevers, no hairspray, no gel……just this perfect silk…………..

I recommend it for your body as a very luxurious oil, your skin feels like silk all day. I love to use it after my shower, even in the summer, it soaks in and is not greasy, just heavenly.
