I can’t believe I’m about to write a post about… deodorant.
But.
Well, here’s the story.
I’ve been feeling increasingly nervous about the chemicals used in regular antiperspirants and the theories linking those substances to certain types of cancer and other diseases. But the fact of the matter is, I also didn’t want to smell like a burly truck driver. I mean, I have my limits.
Somehow or other I stumbled across a recommendation for Arm & Hammer’s new Essentials line of natural deodorants. All of the Amazon reviews were positive; most people were actually very pleasantly surprised with the product.

From the website: “uses Arm & Hammer Baking Soda and natural plant extracts to absorb and fight odor. It is Aluminum AND Paraben-free.”
So I ordered a 4-pack off of Amazon (found out later they sell the stuff in my local grocery store; isn’t that what always happens?) and tried it out.
It does go on very wet, as stated in several of the reviews. The smell is fresh and clean AND neutral. My husband has been known to use it, too, and only because it won’t make him smell like a girl. (He also has his limits.)
But the overarching deciding factor – would I smell like masked body odor at the end of a busy day???
The verdict?
This stuff can totally take the heat.

I followed you over from where you usually write… I’ve never seen this site before, but I really like it. Anywhoo. Thanks for the tip. I’ve seen this in the store a few times and wondered about it. Do you have any experience with the deodorant crystal? If so, how does it compare? thanks!
I had to lol when I saw your post topic today.
You? Natural Deodorant?!
I can’t wait to try this one though! I’ve tried Tom’s of Maine and lemme just say….it most definitely CANNOT take the heat. So, yay for Arm and Hammer! Thanks for the review!
I LOVE the crystal. Use it all the time. It has no scent tho, so sometimes it’s nice to add a little splash of something. I may have to try this!
May have to try this one out! Thanks!
Oh, good to know, thanks for the review!
i had no idea this product existed. i’ve tried the other natural brands as Dolly mentioned and agree they just don’t keep me dry or fresh. thanks for the tip. i will definitely look into this product especially as i have teens who are just beginning to use deodorant and i’d love to save them years of chemical exposure. we’ll see if it can hold up to a ballerina and a black belt in training 🙂 thanks so much for the review!
Thanks for the suggestion. I have used Tom’s of Maine for over a year and am very happy with it. It doesn’t keep you from sweating but it’s not supposed to, it is just a deodorant which is what makes it a lot safer for you to use. Even my husband has started using mine and is happy with it…..again, you will still sweat, but no bad BO which is what’s important to us.
