Hi, I’m Lisa from Stop and Smell the Chocolates! I’m so excited to be joining Chic Critique and look forward to bringing you many great posts on beauty and fashion. I thought I would start by sharing a little info about myself.
My focus on beauty really began in high school – spending 45-60 minutes on my hair, spraying large quantities of Aqua Net, never appearing anywhere without full makeup on which may or may not have included blue eyeshadow, trying to look trendy but not blend in with the crowd. Things have changed a bit since then, but I do still love beauty and fashion (though you might not guess it when you see me at pickup after school or heading to the grocery store – LOL!) and I even sold Avon for a few years.
Some of my beauty beliefs: I believe in being trendy, but dressing appropriately for my age. I believe in high-quality cosmetics, but don’t want to spend a lot of money on them. I believe in using makeup to enhance natural beauty, but not to wear so much that skin can’t breathe. I believe every woman should have a cute purse, but that it can be done for well under $100. And I believe in chocolate, because it is beautiful. Oh, did I say that out loud? 🙂
You know what else I believe? I believe that EVERY woman has an inner beauty queen! Some have let her out and some have not…yet. Have you tried releasing your inner beauty queen? I think you should!
One way we can do that is to try something new this week. We’ll start with lipstick. If you already wear lipstick every day, then wear a new/different color – all week. If you wear lipstick occasionally, wear it every day for a week. If you never wear lipstick, start with a tinted lip balm or gloss and wear it every day for a week. Then come back here and tell me what happened. Did you feel different? Did anybody notice? Did you realize that it might be time for a change? I can’t wait to hear!

Keep on coming back here to Chic Critique for lots of great articles on beauty and fashion – more than enough to satisfy your inner beauty queen! And please leave me a comment telling me your thoughts – I really don’t want to hear crickets chirping after my first post here!!
I’m happy to “meet” all of you and look forward to seeing you again!
Lisa 🙂

Congratulations on joining the team! Looking forward to hearing what you have to say. I love my cute purse. It is big and orange and I got it at Ross for $15!
No crickets chirping here!! Unless you count my noisy kiddos!!
great post!
i will give the lipstick thing a try…i wear a face full of makeup and no lipstick because I just can’t get use to it. the downside to that is that i have lips that look like they belong on a corpse!
must.change.that!
If I were stranded on an island with one thing, I have often said it would be lipstick or lipgloss. I do not go anywhere without it.
Welcome to Chic Critique!
I found you all via Twitter and I’m so glad I did! I’m looking forward to all the fashion and beauty tips you all will share, keep them coming!
Welcome, Lisa! Love your beauty philosophy! I agree whole-heartedly (especially with that whole chocolate thing!).
I used to be a huge lipstick fan, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve shifted more to gloss and now the Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer (which I love). It’s like chapstick and lipstick in one. Perfecto!
I have been really lax about putting makeup on lately. It’s AMAZING how much better I feel the days I take the time.
Lipstick always makes me feel better. In fact, what a great reminder to put some on!
This is a great first post, Lisa.
My quick ‘face’ is a little bronzer for color and a quick pass with some kind of colored lip gloss because it goes a long way in giving the impression of being more put-together. However I’ve been a little lax lately. I’ll have to put something in my work bag and give it a try for the next week and see what happens.
Welcome to the Chic Critique Team!
I see! Now you have me chasing you around the blogosphere. Yup! I’m proving my friendship to you my friend. Um, can you come do a makeover for me for my anniversary coming up? I am soooo bad with makeup. I’m such a tom boy still.
Love you my friend.
Welcome aboard girlie!! I love your idea of trying something new. I am not a lipstick wearing girl at all, although you could never tell with the many sticks in my purse. I’m going to make a conscious effort to use them this week, because I deserve to be a bit girly!!
