L’Oreal De-Crease Eye Shadow Base

For years, people, YEARS, I’ve been looking at people’s eye make-up and wondering, “Why does theirs always look DONE, while mine looks so UNDERDONE?” I’d buy a pretty color shadow and rush home to try (again) to apply it to my lids and have it look like the color in the package, only to end up with eyelids the color of, well, eyelids. With a little tiny hint of the shadow color barely showing up. And an hour later?

Naked eyelids. (GASP!)

Disappointing, boring results, and an expensive “habit?” Not good.

Naked eyelids? Totally unacceptable!

Finally I heard mention of a product called an eyeshadow base. Really? Maybe that was what I was missing? I checked in with a few people I thought’d be in the know. Some said, “No way.” Others said, “You bet.” So I hied myself hither on down to Walgreen’s and picked up a tube of this:

And applied it next morning according to the instructions. Then I applied my eyeshadow just like I always have and TA DAAAAAAAA! I looked DONE.

I like this product for two reasons: 1) It’s easy to apply and 2) It really does make my eyeshadow go on darker and richer and then it holds the shadow there on my lid all day long. AND it holds my eyeliner in place, as well.

The product is “one size fits all” in that there’s only one color to choose from. The tube and applicator are like those from a lip gloss – a narrow vessel that contains a sponge-tipped wand. You dab the product directly onto your lid with the wand and then gently smooth it onto your lid with a clean fingertip. It dries a bit but retains a slightly toothy (sticky, but not in an “ack, I can’t close my eyelids” sortof way) finish which grabs the shadow and liner as you apply them and doesn’t let go.

IF you are not careful during the application process and you let it dry on your lid for too long without smoothing it out well, you may find the product gets a little streaky. But quick, thorough blending removes that risk from the equation.

This product will be a great one for you if you’re looking to get a richer, more polished, longer-lasting look from your favorite eyeshadows.

  1. I find it really depends on the eye shadow I’m using with it — sometimes I need it and sometimes I don’t. But on days that I really want my makeup to last, I definitely use it!!

  2. I have wondered about this stuff as well. Good to read what a real woman has to say about it! I will definitely put this on my shopping list.
    Thanks for sharing!

  3. Went and bought it! This is exactly what I’ve been needing. Thanks!!

  4. I’ll sell you my tube! I admit, it works. However I wish it came in a dark shade as well. The combination of my dark skin, this light base and neutral eye shadow was just odd looking. I’m going to keep looking until I clear one that doesn’t affect my shadow color.
