Shine On!

I have this love for hair products. I am a salon owner’s dream come true.

“Janel, you should try this…” Say no more, I’m sold.

Really, I just can’t seem to get enough of them and I tend to buy many that I end up not liking. But today, I’m talking about one that I love!

One pre-requisite I insist on is that they smell good. I think this comes from growing up watching the Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific shampoo commercials.

Remember those? The guy has his nose buried in some girl’s majorly long 70’s hair and he says, “Gee, your hair smells terrific.” Say no more, I’m sold.

The second reason I will buy a hair product more than once is that it actually has to make a difference on my hair. What works for your head of hair just might not do it for mine and vice versa. I have a full head of hair that is pretty fine in texture. You will have to determine what type of hair you have to know if these products will work for you.

So, I just bought my second bottle of this stuff and I. Love. It. shielding_shine

Biolage™ Shielding Shine Mist

• Lightweight no-hold mist that preserves the longevity of colored hair
• UV filters help shield color from fading
• Protects against free radical damage
• Adds shimmering shine
• Controls frizz and flyaways
• Provides heat protection while styling

First of all anything Biolage smells divine. They honestly make the most smelly good hair products ever. I love their shampoos, too. It just makes my shower a happier place.

I spray this on my hair before I flat iron it. It works to smooth out my hair, protect it and provide shine. Although, I am careful to only spray one or two pumps or it makes my hair very oily.

I also use it if I let my hair dry naturally which will leave some curl. This works well to take out the frizz. I just spray a couple times and fluff my hair with my fingers.

I have seen it at my salon but I got mine at the hair place inside of our local Walmart for about $4 less than my salon sells ending up spending about $12 on this product.

Just to note: If you have a SmartStyle salon inside your Walmart be sure to watch the sales. Each month they will feature Biolage, Redken, Paul Mitchell and many others for BOGO or Buy two get one free and they are less expensive to begin with. And because it is an actual salon – you know you’re getting the real thing. For heaven’s sake, do not buy products like this at your local grocery store unless you have a major coupon. They mark them up tremendously and I’m not sure if they are even buying the products straight from the manufacturer.

Okay, back to the shine.

I also love both of these shine mists 300and they smell equally as good.

Tigi Bed Head: HeadRush Shine Adrenaline

Oh my goodness, this smells like summer and sprays out superfine. I used it for a long time. It’s a tad more expensive at about $15 -16 a bottle and I went through it a lot faster because it was an aerosol spray.

And this.

400000026021

Aveda’s Brilliant Shine Spray.

It smells more organic – not nearly as perfumey. I used it for years. I honestly just needed something new, but really liked it. I also did not color my hair when I used this. I like that the one I am using now has the UV protection.

This retails for $18-$24. Aveda always tends to run a little higher but most find they are well worth it.

For me, it is really important to use a shine mist. I have very dark hair that has been naturally shiny most of my life. About the time I reached 35, it seemed to start losing it’s sparkle and just seems to dull more with each passing year. This is part of the reason I color my hair because it makes it so shiny. So, the bad news is that there is not much you can do about your hair losing it’s shine as you get older. The good news is that there are great products that will add shine to hair. There are even more semi-permanent shine treatments that I plan to review another time. Of course, for daily shine that’s where these shine mists come in handy.

Do you have a favorite shine spray or treatment? Tell us all about it! I’d love to hear about one under $10.

Love the Shine Mist also! Use with the color care shampoo and conditioner with your colored hair and you are set!
And talking about good smelling product KENRA products smell amazing. They also came out with a new Shine mist they have 2 now $12-$16.
But Biologe with the UV Protection even if you dont color your hair is the best!
Biologe styling products tend to be great for people with fine hair, but not so great for people with heavy thick hair, if you have this kind of hair Aquage or Kenra would be for you!

  2. Oh, I have so been wanting to try the Kenra. So, not with my fine hair, you think?

Great info Suzy Q! Thanks for commenting.

SOME items you could use for sure! They have varaible hold factors, just go for the lower ones. The hairsprays smell great just use #9 or #14 NOT #25-26! they have spray shines that work for anyone, just have to be careful not to use to much. I LOVE Biologe BUT they do not have the stronger holds for people with heavy thick/course hair where as Kenra has both! I do like the BIOLOGE shampoos and conditioners for all hair types, smells good AND the price is good. They always have liter sales 2 for 25 usually twice a year, always before school and then again in Feb. Kenra Shampoo and conditioner is good too, but sales are better with Biologe. 🙂 Happy Hair! 4. Good to know about all the Biolage as I have very fine hair. And I do color my hair, so the UV protection would be an excellent thing.

  5. I really need to invest in a shine spray. Like you, my dark hair is losing its luster. I love anything by Biolage or Aveda. I’m going to try one of those!
