Spring 2009 Hair and Makeup Trends

I was perusing sites for a Spring 2009 Fashion Trends post (to be posted Friday, April 3 at Musings — I’ll try to cross post over here), and I came across an article about Spring 2009 Hair and Makeup Trends. Well, I just knew I had to share!

1) Major Liner. Ugh, I’m not a fan of this look.

Beauty Tip: Keep the rest of your makeup simple with natural blush and lips.

2) Peach Blush. Now this one I can do. In fact, I think I may give this a shot.

Beauty tip: Use a light hand to apply one swipe of blush a little below your apples so it doesn’t look too doll-like.

3) Red Lips. I love this look, but it’s one I have never felt I can pull off. Whenever I try it, I feel like a kid playing in her mother’s makeup bag.

Beauty tip: Pair bold lips with lightly bronzed skin.

4) Ponytails and Knots. Oh get this. I lived in pony tails for about 15 years and I finally cut off my hair for a chic, stylish look and now they’re telling me ponytails are IN? I give up.

Beauty tip: For a more modern approach, keep it chic but a little undone.

5) Hair Accessories. So this is what Carrie Underwood was trying to do when she performed for American Idol last week. I think I can officially say I’m NOT a fan of this trend.

Hairstylist Luigi Murenu, who used classic bow headbands at Givenchy, notes, “Hair accessories can not only be a great way to control hair, but they also make a statement.”

Well, yes, they certainly do. But not every statement is one I care to make.

What say you? Any trends here you may embrace?

  1. I think the only two I can go with are the peach blush and the ponytail. (But I wouldn’t exactly call a ponytail ‘trendy.’ Maybe ‘functional.’)

I also think it comical that NONE of those other models are wearing that nasty eyeliner from the first picture. Trend, indeed.

Oh, and I do NOT look good in red lipstick.

  2. I think blonds look better in red lipstick for some reason.

And also, I did notice that heavily lined look somewhere recently. It actually looked good — not as over the top as in these photos. But I remember thinking that perhaps it’s a trend we’ll be seeing a bit of.

  3. Just wait till someone pairs the heavy eyeliner with the hot pink gloss trend I’ve also seen. Yikes! Can you say 1989?

The one trend I’ve started looking into is the peach blush. It looks very clean and fresh. I think I even found a winner last week but I’m not spilling my secret yet. Maybe in this Thursday’s post. 😉

  4. I love heavy eyeliner for night but I think that ultra liquid liner look is a bit too harsh – although I have seen it in other pics and it looks a bit softer.

The bright red lips are so hit and miss – you have to have the most perfect red for you ever. I have a couple but they make me feel even paler than I already am!

The peach blush can look sweet but I the only one that looks ok on me has a touch of bronze in it so not sure it counts.

  5. #1 and #3, are we back in the 80s? eeeepppp

Lived that once, not going back. You can’t make me.

  6. My hair is too short for ponytails.

I discovered with the right guidance you can wear red lipstick. I had a beuatician help me find the right tones. You just have to know what tones of red you can wear. I still don’t wear it a lot. I am not a big makeup wearer.

I do like the peach blush though.

  7. I like the peach blush, and that is about it. Well, I do the ponytails now, so that is a no brainer. I always say I am going to chop mine short so I can’t do a ponytail, but it is so much easier.

  8. The “Beauty Tip” line: did you come up with those?

Peach blush, red lipstick, and ponytails are news? Where do you get this stuff?

  9. I could go for the peach blush…and I just chopped my hair off to (because I wore ponytails all the time) LOL everything else is a pass for me.

  10. Oh, that liner is tooooo much! Not sure about anyone else here, but have you noticed the teen girls wearing it? My niece and her 18 year old friends were SOOOO much black eyeliner, and it’s overkill. I love a smoky eye, but not with liquid liner. Try using a regular liner or eyeshadow and smudging it. Sorry, spring trends…

  11. Okay, the heavy liner is just not good. I think only really young very skinny models can pull this off. And yes, my 16 yo niece loves this look.

    Love the peach blush.

I like red lipstick but I think its important to make sure you wear the right tone of red lipstick for your color. All reds are not created equal.

I am so in with the ponytail. As a matter of fact, I’ve been in total style for about three days now.

  12. Eeesh. The eyeliner is scary; peach blush looks good, but you’re flirting with disaster – peach looks a lot like orange, right? My hair is way too short for the ponytails or accessories. The red lipstick would never look good on me.

When will white tshirts and sweats be in vogue? 🙂

  13. HA! Well, they’re in vogue among the mommy crowd at preschool pickup! 😉
