The Magic Pencil

As my first post at Chic Critique I thought I would share one of my biggest beauty secrets/tricks. I discovered this amazing little trick one Friday night, after a particularly gruelling week, when I had to go and meet this guy I was totally crazy about and I looked like poo. So I ducked into my favorite make up store and asked begged them to “do something with me”. So there I sat, face primed and foundation-ed, cheeks delicately rouged, lips pouty and glossy when the make up artist whipped out an eyeliner in this color:

nars

No, don’t try and adjust your color balance, the color he was about to put on me was indeed Seafoam Green (actually NARS calls it “Parrot Cay” but I didn’t know that yet). I swear I nearly ran screaming from the store – in fact the one thing that kept me seated was the knowledge that the only thing that looks worse than Seafoam eyeliner is going out wearing make up everywhere but your eyes.

So Mr Make Up Artist whips this eyeliner out and starts lining my lower lash with the Seafoam which is making me nervous until he then starts lining INSIDE my upper lashline and then I think he’s insane. Then he whips the chair around so I can look in the mirror and I look… well I looked great. The Seafoam had essentially erased all of the redness around my eyes which made the whites of my eyes look brighter (and way less bloodshot than they were) and I looked like I had just woken up (in a good way) rather than I had just crawled there on my hands an knees. I was amazed! He finished my eyes with shadow, mascara and a lovely liner on TOP of my lash line and there was no way to tell that the Seafoam had ever been there. I just looked awake and lovely – it was, indeed, a magic pencil. I now use NARS Parrot Cay eyeliner all the time – especially when traveling as nothing can make you look old and tired as a long haul flight but its equally as good on those mornings after a sleepless night or at the end of a long day. Oh and that guy I met up with? He’s now my husband!

I thought as pictures speak louder than words I’d show you the difference between no Parrot Cay and using Parrot Cay! Please excuse the slightly shiny photos!

  1. Wow! That IS really effective, isn’t it? Neato. I could use a little help in the tired-eye dept.

  2. Wow – that is amazing! Who would think of that? Thanks for sharing!

  3. Magic certainly is the right word. Any hint of redness around your eyes is gone with that liner. I think I’ll have to check that out the next time I’m in Sephora.

  4. I am impressed!

  5. That is a big difference. I wonder if it would work on darker eyes. I could use the awake look.

  6. THAT is so cool! Loving the pictures too!!
