Alrighty. I confess. Lately I’ve been having a tough time dealing with my AGE. I may even be having myself a good old fashioned mid-life crisis. I don’t know. All I know is that lately everytime I’ve looked in the mirror, some old lady’s blinked back at me with tired, sunken, dull looking eyes.
Hello Granny. No offense, honey, but BEAT IT.
Old is definitely not my thing, people.
So I’ve been experimenting with eye make-up lately, trying to find something that will liven up these weary peepers and bring my face back to the land of the living. The youthful living. One thing I’ve read and heard can help open and brighten eyes is a brow highlighter, like this one by Almay.
You just stroke a light line right up under your actual brow (which, of course, you will have carefully plucked, or waxed, or otherwise shaped and filled in, because careful and appropriate brow styling’s the first and most important step in helping keep your eyes bright and open and youthful-looking, in my opinion although you certainly can’t tell it by these pictures because ohmygosh why are my eyebrows so uneven-looking? I swear they don’t look like that in person!), and this line of light highlighting the brow should help further lift and define the area and give your eyes a more open, lifted, fresh and alert look.
Take a look:
Yeah, I don’t see much difference either. In fact, everything being equal, I like the before picture better, but not because I’m not wearing the highlighter. Just because I look perkier in general, which is the risk you take when you’re an amateur photographer and Eckerd-trained make-up artist. But really, the result in real life is noticeable. I like it. And it’s easy to do.
The Almay pencil (I’m using the pearl highlighter designed for fair-colored people, which includes a brown eyeliner on the other end, so it’s a nice little multi-tasking workhorse for your overstufed make-up bag) goes on smoothly and easily and blends smoothly into the rest of my eye make-up for a seamless look. It stays put all day, too and washes away easily with my gentle facial cleanser.

LOL! LOL! Beat it! I hear ya, Sistah. Will you tell the Granny who has taken over my face to beat it too? Sigh… I like the idea of this. I often put a highlight shadow on that area below the brow – same result, probly.
Carmindy always says to use the light color and put it in that space between the inside of your eyes and your nose to brighten your eyes. Doesn’t work for me, but I bet it’d work on you. And btw, enjoy how young and pretty you look while you’re young and pretty. Cuz one day you WILL be an old lady and no amount of highlighting will help you! HA! I should know!
