Frugal Pedicures

During these tight economic times having options is always a plus. And having an option to still have pretty feet and toes that makes you feel like you rule the world, is definitely a plus in my book.

First: Remove old nail polish off your toes.

Second: Grab an old container that will fit both feet. Fill the tub with as warm/hot water as you can stand. Put epsom salts in or foot fizzies and soak your feet for 10-15 minutes.

Pat them slightly dry with a towel. Find a facial mask for really dry skin (any cheap brand will do – remember it’s your feet), apply the mask generously and wrap your feet in either saran wrap (yes your husband WILL wonder why you have the saran wrap to wrap body parts) or a plastic bag, wrap each foot individually and take a dry towel and wrap around both feet together (like a mini sauna for your feet). Let that soak in for another 10-15 minutes.

Take the saran wrap/plastic bags off and rinse in the water (you may need a pitcher of warm water next to you to warm up the water), towel dry slightly and then apply a buffing cream (or sugar, a pumice stone, etc. those will work too) to sluff off dead skin. Apply a little bit of a cleanser (nothing too drying, a body cleanser preferably) to help wash off the residue and then rinse your feet in the water again. Towel completely dry.

Third: Pick out a pretty nail color to paint your toes. A neutral red is always a good choice, it goes with everything. (Personally, I believe red makes you feel like you can rule the word!).

And Fourth: Apply a very intense moisturizer to your feet and legs (body butters from bath and body works are great for this).

And there you have an official pedicure for a fraction of the cost of a salon!

  1. oooh, I’m SO going to try this!! I pay to have my nails (acrylics) done all the time, but I just HATE to splurge on pedis (as much as I enjoy them) –

Sounds like a GREAT idea for a mother/daughter night!!

    Thanks!!

  2. That sounds so good, I think I might have to do this after my 3yo is in bed tonight (otherwise he will wnat one too). My feet could really use this after mowing the lawn and digging up our garden these last few days.

  3. lovely idea.. i seriously need one as my feet are chapped and also dont get time to go to salon.. I m gonna try this sunday. 🙂

  4. I really should do this myself but I always end up going to the salon and paying for it. You make it sound so simple!
