If you were being forced to leave your house, but allowed time to apply ONE item of makeup, what would you choose?
Hands down, I’d choose mascara, even over concealer. It makes my face.
But since it also can be time-consuming (probably because I like it just so… perfectionism, much?), I’ve considered getting a good set of false eyelashes just to be able to stick ‘em on and GO. That might be convenient, especially for a busy mama.
I’ve tried one pair in the past and didn’t think I could get them on well enough to leave the house without feeling ridiculous. But, my sisters use them quite frequently, so I decided to do a little interview/photo session using them as my models.
Meet my sisters (they’re identical, mirror twins):
(No, they don’t really look like me but a) they highlight their hair and b) we do have the same nose.)
They use Salon Perfect Lashes, there’s about 4 different variations, some are longer, some are fuller; they use #110 or #53. (I could not for the life of me find a brand photo on the internet, sorry.)
Package directions:
1. Apply all other make-up first, except mascara.
2. Check fit by applying lashes without adhesive. Gently remove lash from platform starting from the outside corner of the band.
3. Place lash on eyelid after flexing a bit and drape along lid as close as possible to root of your natural lash. If lash is too long, trim from outside edge.
4. After sizing, apply a thin coating of Salon Perfect Lash Adhesive along back of lash strip, then apply. adhesive will dry clear in a few minutes.
When they were over last night, I snapped an ‘after’ photo of Carrissa:
Not bad! I think the key with applying these is practice makes perfect. And hey, now you know how to look dramatically glamorous for Date Night!
(I’m pretty sure they get the Salon Perfect lashes at Wal*mart.)

I have a pair that I bought about a year ago and still haven’t tried. Seems a little much the daily grind. But I hope I have an excuse to wear them now! Love C and C!!
Yeah, maybe a bit much for the daily grind (although they do have smaller, less-dramatic ones); I’m just thinking out loud about possible time-savers…
How long do they last? I’ve never tried them – too afraid! I also would choose mascara as my #1beauty item.
Oh, I love long eyelashes. That’s why I would definitely choose mascara, too. I’ve tried false eyelashes in the past and, I’ve got to admit, it was a bit of a disaster. But, you’re probably right in saying that practice makes perfect. So, maybe I’ll give it another shot. My biggest fear is not applying enough glue and having them fall off while I’m talking to someone. 🙂
Wow. I could NEVER do that, but it sure is fun to watch! I can’t even stand mascara. I occasionally put a little eye-liner under my eyes to give a hint of something there. My one necessary make-up item? Lipstick. Absolutely.
I’m terrified of them, but I know they’re a great nighttime look. Fun post!
I don’t go in Walmart much anymore, but I will be looking for these next time.
Your sisters are ADORABLE!
good idea. especially since, i don’t know why, but ever since i have had babies my eyelashes are not as long or full as they used to be. i am going to try this soon.
I have been wanting to get some fake eyelashes forever! I used them for my wedding, applied by a professional hands of course (scary thought otherwise) and LOVED them. Thanks for this post!
btw–I just kind of stumbled across your post from Fabulously Frugalicious and will have to visit more!
