Banish Rough Elbows

elbowWhen I was really young, my elbows looked like the rest of my skin. Something happened around my teens, they started to look more like elephant skin. This is probably not the style you’re going for in warm summer months when these parts of your body are exposed. I wasn’t about to put up with that, so I’ve learned some tricks to get my skin back. I don’t know quite why elbows change the way they do (except maybe all that chin resting they take), but you don’t have to live with it!

Here are a few tips I’ve collected over the years – I’ve used each of them with success!

*Take a freshly cut lemon and rub gently on rough elbows (this will work on knees as well). The acid in the lemon will soften rough spots on skin and also lighten any dark areas.

*For an occasional treat, use a loofah with a moisturizing scrub to exfoliate elbows. Stay away from any product that has alcohol in it since this can make rough elbows worse by further drying out the skin. Next try cutting bands out of an old pair of socks, then slide them over elbows just slathered with body cream with Shea Butter or Vaseline. Sleep in your homemade sockets and wake up to supple skin.

*Make a paste of baking soda and lemon juice. Apply to elbows. Leave paste dry for 10 mins., then rinse off.

So there you go, some great ways to banish your dry rough elbows and enjoy bare summer clothes. Do you have a tried and true technique for elbows? I’d love to hear about it!
