Girls just wanna have bangs

Getting a new hairstyle can be risky, even traumatic for some women. It’s a BIG decision, once the hair is cut, it takes some time to grow it back.

The decision of bangs plays a big role in hairstyles. Bangs have never really gone out of style they’ve just changed somewhat over the years.

Choosing a bang style is the easy part but deciding if bangs are right for you is a little more challenging. Bangs can give a totally different appearance to most any face. And once they’re cut it’s hard to do anything else with them if you don’t like the look.

Bangs can be worn to minimize large foreheads, help control annoying cowlicks or disguise forehead lines. They tend to look good on just about anyone of any age. They can be created to scale from long to short, side-swept to full frontal blunt or a variety in-between.

There’s SO much to consider when choosing bangs, including hair texture, hair type, hair length, hair condition, but most importantly….. face shape.

Oval face shapes – The sky is the limit for those with oval-shaped faces. It is considered to be a face shape that can wear any type of style or hair. This includes bangs which can be worn in just about any style. The only danger is making sure they aren’t too short.

Celebs with oval face shape: Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Jada Pinkett Smith

Round face shapes –
you may want to try angled bangs to soften your wider cheek area. Another option that works well on a round face is a squared-off bang. Both these types of bangs add some angles that will diminish the roundness of your face. You can also offset a round face with choppy bangs that add different lengths and angles.

Celebs with round face shape: Fergie, Kate Bosworth, Oprah Winfrey, Cameron Diaz, Kirsten Dunst, Michelle Williams, Catherine Zeta-Jones

Long face shapes – blunt brow hugging bangs that softly drape over the forehead will help to give the impression of a more oval-shaped face. The oval look can be strengthened by opting for long or graduated layers that softly caress the sides of the face.

Celebs with long face shape: Sarah Jessica Parker, Ashlee Simpson, Liv Tyler, Giselle Bundchen

Square face shapes – consider side-swept bangs that gently curve or taper inwards towards the jaw to soften pronounced square facial lines. When well cut, side swept bangs can also help soften all the angles of the face.

Celebs with square face shape: Gwyneth Paltrow, Demi Moore, Angelina Jolie, Isabella Rosellini and Rosario Dawson

Heart face shapes – depending on the ultimate goal, bangs can be selected to either minimize the general wideness of the heart shaped face or help to balance the generally prominent chin. A side swept feathered or texturized bang style can also be another great option.A heart shaped face can also usually carry off full bangs cut straight across the face. Long or short, full bangs can look really great for a heart shape.

Celebs with heart face shape: Katie Holmes, Jennifer Lopez, Rachel Bilson, Reese Witherspoon

When in doubt about bangs, get the ‘easy to grow out’ swoop bangs. these bangs usually look good on ANY face shape.

Remember, it doesn’t matter the color or the length, it matters what you feel and look good in.

  1. I’m getting my hair cut and colored next week….short and really blonde! It will be the biggest change in my locks for years. I used to rock short, funky cuts and color all the time. I guess I got a little lazy with the birth of my sixth child. Hehe. I’ll let you know how it turns out!

  2. This is a great post! Very informative. I love bangs, get them, let them grow out, get them again, grow them out….
