Just Call Me Miss Fix-It

So I know this isn’t exactly a crafty blog. But maybe you have a necklace or other piece of jewelry (perhaps broken?) you’re not really sure what to do with. Try recycling it!

I’ve had this plum-tones necklace I bought at Target a couple of years ago to go with some of my fall clothes. It was actually three strands, but I felt it was a little much and cut one of the strands off. Apparently I didn’t get close enough and the wire near the clasp always scratched my neck.

Here it is with just the two strands:

In the jewelry-making department at Hobby Lobby I found a silver wire (with necklace clasps) I could use to remake the necklace:

(I’m sure you can find this sort of thing at Michael’s or a similar craft store if there’s not a Hobby Lobby in your area.)

I re-strung all the beads just like how they were originally, and then used the crimp beads inside a beaded/looped end to re-make the clasp:

(Sorry that last photo is a little blurry. I totally blame my camera.)

Also, I do have a set of jewlery tools, which were only a couple of dollars at one of those craft stores:

With the re-made clasp:

I decided not to link the two necklaces together, but keep them separate so I could wear them both at once or alone:

Scratch-free and as good as new!!

  1. I love recycling broken and vintage jewelry. My favorite necklace is actually a creation made from various pieces I’ve collected from my own pieces, garage sales, and antique scraps. I’ve actually sold many of the pieces I’ve made. Get to re-creating, Ladies!

  2. Are you out for hire? I have several broken pieces right now :o) Maybe we can have a jewelry fix-up play date…..

  3. You make me proud!! Don’t make it look too easy – you’ll put me out of business. šŸ™‚

  4. I have about 5 different Target necklaces that have all broken at the clasp. I never thought of restringing them myself! Very clever – thanks for the tip!

  5. Great ideas! I’m always tweaking the jewelry that I buy–usually taking a little bit off of dangling earrings. I need to keep all those pieces and give your trick a try!

  6. That’s really nice! I like that you made the 2 pieces for more versatility!
