An Oldie But Goodie

Although I’ve been dying to go for a good pedicure this winter, I just haven’t made it over to the local nail salon. As a result, my heels have been very, very unhappy. Actually, they were in the worst condition they’ve ever been in. Walking was even painful from the deep crack that formed on my left heel.

Hopefully you’ve never let your heels get that bad. But if you have, you know that just the thought of exfoliating them in that condition is painful! So I tried a tip that I’ve always heard about, but never tried.

I slathered Aquaphor lotion all over my heels before bed, then put socks on and went to sleep. I was shocked at how much better my heels were when I pulled the socks off in the morning. I did it again for two more nights, and although my heels still needed a good scrubbing, they were a zillion times better! No more pain, the cracks had healed, and I could easily take a pumice stone and finish the job. I’m sure Vaseline would work, too.

Make sure you put the socks on – you definitely don’t want that stuff all over your sheets or carpet! Give it a try – your feet will thank you!

  1. I do the same thing with Vaseline- it does do a wonderful job. Thankfully, Vaseline is considerably cheaper than Aquaphor. 😉

  2. i never thought to try aquaphor…i have been using “miracle foot cream” or something like that and it’s great! it really moisturizes so much better than regular lotions. (when my skin is super dry and itchy, it works wonders for that too! there’s a slight “menthol-something” to it).

i never much cared for getting pedicures *gasp*. the couple times i did the water was too hot and the technician was really rough, not just with tools but even when massaging lotion on my lower legs.

since the invention of the ped-egg and the miracle foot cream, my feet have been in heaven! i also buff out my toenails for a smooth finish and polish. so much better than the salon!

lastly, and you probably already know this…when i use polish on my toenails (especially darker colors), it leaves a yellow-ish stain on my nails. buffing them out takes the stain right off!

  3. I do this with vaseline. One Christmas, my in-laws threw in Neutrogena hand and feet lotions in our stockings and it’s been wonderful for my heels. I do the same thing twice a month with the Neutrogena and I don’t even need the pumice stone 🙂
