Get to the Bottom of Your Lipgloss

While chatting with a friend one day I was lamenting the fact that my lipgloss tube wasn’t quite empty but I just couldn’t get anymore out of it.

The next words out of her mouth changed my life.

Ok, maybe not that drastic, but they’ve helped me get more out of my lipgloss than ever before.

The trick, she told me, is to remove the “wand wiper” which allows the wand to reach further to the bottom and closer to the side walls.

I’ve discovered that some wand wipers are easier to remove than others so you may need to do like I did and enlist the help of someone stronger (thanks brother!). Some are super easy to remove with just a butter knife.

Ok, so here’s the how to:

  • Take your lipgloss tube and wedge a dull edge knife (aka butter knife) between the threaded neck of the tube and the wand wiper.

  • Rock/wiggle it until it comes out. This may take several tries depending on the brand (Covergirl is a little difficult to work with). Hang on to the wand wiper though, see why below.

It’s that easy.

Once you’ve totally used it up don’t throw the tube away. If you’re like me and hate the squeeze tube lipglosses, you can fill up the empty lipgloss tube with those. Just squeeze the lipgloss into the empty tube and replace the wand wiper. It should easily fit back in.

  1. Ohh I’ve got another tip for getting the last out of products in this kinda packaging!!

Drop them in hot water!! I had a friend who used to boil water on the stove, let it cool for a few minutes, and then drop the product in. She’d wait a minute or two until the product was headed up, then fish it out and shake the product down into the bottom of the tube with a vigorous arm shaking.

It helps pool all the remaining product together so that the wand can reach it! I use this for my concealer ALL THE TIME – it works wonders!

  2. Great ideas! I hate not being able to get that last little bit. I love an excuse to buy a new shiny tube of lipgloss, though.

  3. great idea!

  4. Love it… I’ll have to pull out the ones I try to scrape & give it a shot…

  5. Cool tip!

  6. I love the last part of the tip…I hate those squeeze lip gloss tubes, too (yet, I keep ending up with them …go figure).
