Let’s Talk Lip Gloss

I rarely wear lipstick, but I’m a huge fan of lip gloss. I have it stashed all over the house like some sort of junkie. I can’t bear the thought of running out. Here are a few of my current faves.

lip plumperMy go-to lip gloss, the one I keep in my makeup bag and put on every morning is by Laura Mercier. I got a small tube of this as a free sample, and I liked it so much that I went back and bought the full-sized version. It’s actually a Lip Plumper — whatever. I certainly don’t notice any plumping action going on. But I love how it goes on. It’s moist but not sticky, and it has a nice boost of color. I use Rose Flush. It has a nice pinkish tone to it that I find fresh and youthful. It has a traditional applicator, which I like. I’m not as much a fan of the brushes. It’s $30 so it ain’t cheap, but I find that it lasts a long time.

Another old standby is Mocktail by Lorac. It’s flavored lip gloss — yum. It is in a squeezable tube with a brush applicator. I use the Caffeini Martini, which is a rose-brown shade, and it does taste yummy. I wore this before I found the Laura Mercier one. I like the Caffeini Martini color better for fall. It retails for $18.

My latest addition to my lip gloss collection is by Bare Minerals. The color I use is… you guessed it, Rose. Are you sensing a pattern here? Okay, so I’m nothing if not predictable. I received this last weekend at the Invisalign blogger outreach event, and I like it a lot. I do wish the color were a little deeper, it’s not quite as saturated as the others I’ve mentioned. But it retails for $15, and it is free of preservatives, parabens and artificial dyes, which is a huge bonus. It also smells and tastes great.

33099_00_lI know these are all rather spendy, but another one that I love that you can find at your neighborhood drugstore is Burt’s Bees. I actually buy these for my daughters. I know, $7 is a hefty price tag for a child, but they love lip glosses, and the stuff they gear to kids scares me. Who KNOWS that’s in that stuff? I like Burt’s Bees because I trust them to be all natural and free of harmful ingredients. They are incredibly moisturizing too, so if you have a problem with dry lips, it’s worth a try.

What’s your favorite lip gloss? Or are you a lip stick girl? Do tell.

  1. I just saw your tweet and came over to tell everyone about my new favorite lip gloss. However, you beat me to it ~ what a coincidence! Bare Minerals “Rose” is the best. Great color, yummy taste, and decent price.

  2. I am a huge fan of Bare Minerals. I switch between ‘wild honey’ and ‘cassis’ but I am just a little bit addicted to it.

  3. While I love lip gloss, my current favorite is a creamy lipstick made by Benefit Cosmetics. I first ordered it online. The color is the perfect blend between nude and pink. I decided to try a different shade when I was visiting Sephora…trying on pink after pink, I came home with this same color because I could not remember the name of the shade. Anyway, this is perfect everyday, smooth, creamy lipstick.

I use Bath and Body Works – tinted gloss in the tube with peppermint flavor! I am going to have to give these mentioned a try b/c I love lip gloss.

  5. I love Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer in Nutmeg. Even if I have on no other makeup at all, that makes me feel good. It’s not too sticky and it’s not too much color and it’s all perfectly chap-sticky…it’s just right.

I love the look of lip gloss, but I hate the sticky feel. I just passed two of my favorite… Nars orgasm & Dior 628 ( I think) to my niece. I tend to live in Burts Bees lip shimmer in fig. I’ve just ordered a new one from la Bella Donna. I have high hopes for that one, so we’ll see!

  7. I love Cover Girl Wet Slicks Amazemint in No Care Bare. It has peppermint extract in it so it smells like peppermint and leaves a slight tingle {only slight! it’s not a plumper!} You can find it for around $6, but I buy it when the drugstores are having a BOGO sale.

For lipstick, I’m really into nudes right now. So the one I’m using is Revlon’s Soft Nude.

  8. I’m a lip gloss girl – any brand that’s not sticky will do.
